When I was in high school, I would take the Metra downtown and walk to fencing practice from Union Station. The smell of chocolate was a frequent companion.
VERITAS is back in the budget!! 🚀❤️ The project will get going full swing this fall (FY25). We’re looking at a 31 launch (TBC). Thanks to everyone who’s supported our return to Venus!! It’s going to be fabulous 😍

14 years ago today, on March 1, 2010, @NASAJPL's Mars rover Spirit captured this view comprising its final pancam images showing one of its wheels stuck in soft sand around an area in Gusev Crater called Home Plate. Communication from Spirit ended 3 weeks later.
@ThePlanetaryGuy My understanding of the geophysical limitations of the VERITAS repeat-pass interferometry measurements are all volcanic and driven by what @SueSmrekar chose to put in the Concept Study Report. She's the one to ask.
New deformation map from @ASI_spazio COSMO-SkyMed satellite constellation spanning Jan 31-Feb 1 (6 PM HST each day). Fringes indicate ground motion. Data show significant displacements in 24 hours indicating dike emplacement SW of #Kilauea caldera.

@ThePlanetaryGuy I don't know why not. Ground motion is ground motion, yes? But of course that you're asking makes me question that assumption. I've certainly seen interferograms from earthquakes...
As you know, I'm little better than a reasonably well-read layperson when it comes to geophysics.
@RocketCaley True, but since I have an actual "Mission Impossible" award on my desk here from Team X ("For accomplishing the impossible. You are now expected to do this from now on.") it was too good to pass up the first four gifs. :-)
