To our East High School students and staff: even though there are no classes tomorrow please know that our grief counselors will be at school tomorrow and all week long to support you after today’s tragic event.
Des Moines is home to thousands of Asian American and Pacific Islander people including our students, families and staff. We are sharing our statement of support and the message “Stop Asian Hate” on our school signs throughout the city beginning tomorrow. https://t.co/mxPQbQeaLy
We are missing a few...but our first virtual staff picture turned out great! What a fun morning of professional learning and reflection. @WalnutStreetIB
It’s going to be a chilly morning tomorrow as we welcome nearly 4400 elementary school students back to school for hybrid learning. Be sure to wear a coat. And a mask.
Our first day with students in our caring cafe was a success! Our PK students enjoyed their own space while eating their lunches. We have missed our students and happy to have a small cohort of preschoolers back in the building.
The School Board will consider a plan at their meeting on Monday evening that is compliant with the State's Return to Learn mandates. If you didn't receive today's e-newsletter with our announcement you can read it at the link below.

As COVID-19 pandemic continues – and schools are disrupted due to cases in students and staff – State has rejected request by DMPS to begin school year virtually. We are filing a court petition for injunction of decision and review of State’s authority.

The Des Moines School Board has unanimously approved a change to the 2020-21 school calendar. The first day of classes for students will be Tuesday, September 8.
Don't forget: Friday is the deadline to complete online registration! Families have two options: 100% virtual or a hybrid (mix of virtual and in-person) learning. Students not registered by end of July will be assigned to hybrid model.

One week left to complete online registration! Families have two options to choose from; 100% virtual learning or the hybrid model. To allow time for staffing, students not registered by the end of the day on July 31 will be assigned to the hybrid model. https://t.co/NekvioTDss
Learn more about our approach for "return to learn" and resuming classes 2020-21. The first day of school this August will not be the same as last August as we provide different options for students and families to begin the new year.
