White people and, to some extent, Indians are making money in South Africa because they understand how the financial services system works and are trained at home on how to secure their future and that of their children.
More importantly, they are willing to learn!
I first had an interest in buying a home in South Africa in 2000 when I saw a home advertised for sale in Centurion on a real estate website.
Just like in Zimbabwe then, there were mortgages.
Today, mortgages remain available in South Africa for both South Africans and foreign nationals who meet the criteria.
Sadly Zimbabwe doesn’t have traditional mortgage bonds today!
But that shouldn’t stop you from scouting elsewhere.
If you are not securing your future in property using the financial tools available to you today, like mortgage bonds which are available in countries like South Africa, you only have yourself to blame.
Ndimi munenge makuzotii, hee akawana kupi mari yacho, heee akaita fraud kuUK simply because you are ignorant of how the financial services system works and you show little interest in serious things and you are lazy and always find excuses to explain your failures by wanting to taint others who took time to invest in ideas!
As black people, let us teach each other how to make money instead of being haters!
There are properties that you buy for immediate income, properties that you buy for your pension days, and properties that you buy for future generations to benefit from.
I try hard to protect my privacy while also not hiding information from others.
As a South African, you have access to mortgages.
Use them to build your wealth and secure your future and not live from pay check to pay check.
As a Zimbabwean, you can buy properties in South Africa without a permit to live there.
It is strictly business for banks if you meet the requirements.
South Africans have businesses and real estate in Zimbabwe, Zimbabweans can also do the same if they meet the requirements set by the South Africans.
Use those facilities, they are there to grow the South African economy and to help you secure your future too!
To get a mortgage in South Africa, you need to have 50% of the house price of you are a foreign national without a permit to live there.
You don’t need to live in South Africa or have a permit to live there, just your deposit!
You can literally fly on a plane as I always do and apply for a mortgage bond in a South African bank, a decision is made in a day or two, you buy your property, and you fly back home whilst transfer happens in five weeks time.
The importance of financial literacy and utilising available tools to build wealth, particularly in real estate, is one area that blacks must focus on instead of useless insults on social media.
For many Black South Africans and Zimbabweans, the financial system can be opaque and daunting.
Understanding how mortgages, investments, and other financial tools work is essential for building long-term financial security and generational wealth.
That is why I always encourage knowledge-sharing and collaboration within the Black community.
By educating ourselves and each other about the opportunities and resources available, we can overcome the systemic barriers that have historically disadvantaged us.
Next time have a braai and a drink with folks that you can learn something from instead of just going to Groove!
Old age is painful when you don’t have money, medical aid or you are renting!
The most arrogant man always wins. The job, the girl, etc. Arrogance is not boasting. Arrogance is claiming what you believe belongs to you. Most men don’t believe they deserve to win, the arrogant man sees the world as his for the taking. He takes, while others wait for approval
Life never gets easier, you just get physically healthier, mentally stronger, financially freer, emotionally firmer, intellectually keener, purposefully bolder.
This German friend of mine said he has seen more Mercedes Benz in Zimbabwe than he had seen in Germany.
He went on to say in Germany people are just modest, you can seat in a restaurant with a multimillionaire and not even notice.
Almost everyone prefers using public transport because getting in town and doing your errands,50 euro will be enough for the whole month, you can travel around the whole of Germany.
Do you think you can be a millionaire and people around you not notice ?
Admirable traits of strong leadership:
1. Humility - a beginner’s mindset that is open to new ideas and less judgmental. A mindset free of prejudice. A quiet mind that values actions and impact above words.
2. Honestly - radical transparency with grace and dignity. The ability to give feedback without causing resentment is a superpower. The ability to admit mistakes quickly and to ask for forgiveness. And a willingness to show vulnerability.
3. Self-awareness (situational awareness) - reading the room and balancing one’s contributions to ensure a value exchange that benefits all. Knowing when to speak and when to listen. Knowing that given a choice of being clever or kind, being kind is right choice. It is balancing ambition with value.
4. Sense of humor - do not take yourself too seriously and stay accessible. Show passion and ambition but not at a cost to others. Make people comfortable and at ease. Laugh loudly but welcome humor with open arms. But not at the expense to others. Happy people smile more.
5. Active listening (hear the unsaid and listen with your eyes) - if you are waiting for a pause, so that you can speak, you are not truly listening. And the most important part of listening is the ability to hear the unsaid. Sometimes the best way to support and help others is to give your undivided attention.
6. Interest in others (empathy) - be interesting first. The goal is to leave people better than when you found them. Everyone you meet knows more about something than you do. Care more about the people around you. This is my definition of servant leadership.
7. Generosity (giving) - the coolest people I know are unselfishly generous with their time and knowledge. Give more than you take. And give without expecting a get. The strongest leaders give more than they take. Takers may end up with more, but givers sleep better at night.
8. Intellectual curiosity -learn to search for the grounded truth. And be willing to change your mind when the facts and the truth contradicts your prior beliefs. The strongest leaders are lifelong students. And also lifelong teachers. Start with 4 word: what do you think?
9. Good manners - be nice and polite to all. This may be life’s biggest hack. Say ‘thank you’ and ‘please’ more. Hold doors a bit longer. Do not interrupt people. Do not brag. Do not shout or speak poorly of others. Be a good person, but do not waste time trying to prove it.
10. No sense or entitlement - the world does not owe you a thing. The best people that I know are not chasing compliments or validation. Learn to fight for your happiness and do it with dignity, optimism and grace. Fall in love with the work, not the praise.
11. Positioning for shared success - In a celebration, lead from the back. In a crisis, lead from the front. In the company of someone that has a better idea, follow first. Leadership is all about positioning and standing in the right places.
12. Legacy of servant leadership - The best leaders leave everything and everyone better than when they found them. You will be remembered by how often you helped others achieve their goals.
13. Grit and persistence - Some things are hard to teach: sense of urgency, critical thinking, creativity, customer empathy, team commitment, humility, unselfish giving, judgement, grace and dignity, positivity, optimism, bias towards results, active listening; Strong leaders teach the hard stuff.
Stop waiting for miracles or benevolent saviors. Assume that you are alone, that no one cares. Take responsibility for where you are in life. Become the investor, the mentor, the friend you wish you had. You’ll start attracting the people and the opportunities you always wanted.
