For someone as press savvy as Queen Rania of Jordan, this CNN interview was a massive, massive mistake. To see her blatantly brush aside Hamas' terrorist attacks in Israel against civilians, while urging sympathy for Gaza, is a blatant rewriting the conflict to suit her own agenda, and a clear indication of her support for Hamas, which, when pressed, she cannot even deny.

The reality is that these military strikes that she's denouncing are only occurring BECAUSE Hamas attacked Israel. No other reason. Her complaining that no one in the West is calling for a cease fire is as ridiculous as telling America not to attack the Taliban government in Afghanistan that harbored Osama bin Laden after 9/11. She is also calling the Western world "complicit" in the military strikes on Gaza, as if she's not "complicit" in the terrorist attacks of Hamas by brushing off Israel's necessary military response.

There is no country on earth that could honestly tell Israel not to respond, as it would perhaps impact their own ability to retaliate if another country or terrorist organization damages their sovereignty.

This is not to say that the situation with the Palestinians is not complicated geopolitical situation with tensions that go back centuries, it is, but it's clear that she sees Israel as an occupying force and not a sovereign nation, which is seemingly against the peace accords signed by King Abdullah's father King Hussein in 1994. Her words will further damage relations, which is why this was an exceptionally bad move on her part.

Perhaps the media attention that she's enjoyed and sought after for years has gone to her head a bit, but she's the wife of a King and not a celebrity. Her words could have broad consequences on her own nation, which she even admits is much weaker in military strength compared to Israel.

She also fails to recognize that what Hamas' terrorist attack broadly sought out civilian areas and facilities, not military installations. When you are more interested in targeting and killing babies than soldiers, the world doesn't take to kindly to that.

And if Israel's military attacks are as "precise," as she claims, then that could only mean that Hamas must hide its terrorist facilities underneath civilian buildings. Hamas can use the civilians as shields and then claim Israel is the abusive power when they end up bearing the brunt of the military response. It's a military propaganda tactic as old as time.

She's also pushy in this interview and did not come off well.

Overall, this interview was a disaster for her and her country. If you're the wife of the king, you must be a diplomat and, though I was disappointed with his lack of condemnation for Hamas, King Abdullah came out much better initially than she does here.

She can't even nuance the conflict well, as it's so so clear all she wants to do is blame Israel and absolve Hamas.

Actions have consequences, and if the retaliation is too difficult then don't initiate the conflict.
