looking back, the ~15 years in which video games were seen as something of a public health threat and a danger to young men’s sense of drive and general well-adjustedness is hilarious since they are now one of the least mentally bad things you can do on a phone or computer
In this video, Jason Schreier says that Sony is killing physical media because the video game industry is now a mature market and it isn't growing fast enough. So they want the extra money from a digital only future. Basically, investors aren't getting rich as fast as they want.
Believing a video game is better because it’s “bigger and more expensive” is the mindset that’s lead to the industry being in the horrific state it currently finds itself

Gamescom kinda makes me appreciate stuff like Nintendo Directs a lot more cause even when Directs are kinda bad, they at least feel like they have some variety and don’t feel like they take forever
