I think she's going to be just fine. Meeting her where she is, answering just the questions she asks and not diving too much deeper, it's going well. We've done a lot more talking and lot less forgetting/avoiding past events.

Thinking about this again. While it has been tough, I think having frank conversations about death and dying has been very healthy. We don't have to use euphemisms and dance around character deaths in movies (looking at you Mufasa, and Coco) and my daughter is so inquisitive.

Rapidly approaching the day when I have to explain the death of a loved one to my 2yo.

It's not unique, and I know I'll have the words but it sucks. She won't realize it in a day or week but over months of reminders, switching from matter of fact, to jokes, to sorrow and back.

It's led to chances to talk about our own mortality and living the time we have. After watching Star Wars we discussed burial and cremation (she has strong feelings here against cremation). How we respect and remember the dead.

@PhDemetri The part that actually took work, and my favorite, was a deeper dive into background for the introduction.

Definitely more than needed, but felt good to do a historical lit review and have the confidence I had mastered the area surrounding my project.

Step 1: print papers (double sided)

Step 2: staple the top left corner

Step 3: put them in my carry bag

Step 4: carry them back and forth between work and home for weeks.
