Communities deserve #transparency on H20 & energy use of #AIInfrastructure. Advocating for federal transparency laws. 🏢
New data centers are being paused.
Data centers must disclose their plans to:
✅ pay their own way
✅ provide their own power
✅ reuse their own water
✅ reduce the cost of electricity
✅ & avoid disturbing neighborhoods
Data centers power the technology we rely on—but they also consume enormous amounts of energy for cooling, production and maintenance. ⚡️
What does that mean for people living nearby? Michael E. Webber, explains on Horizons from @NewsHour. #DataCenters

Higher electricity bills are a hidden cost of data centers—communities shouldn’t have to foot the bill. Take action:
1️⃣ TellCongress to support the Data Center Water & Energy Transparency Act
2️⃣ Share your story w/ @ErinBrockovich : https://t.co/BRIJFgvw4T

Communities deserve: facts, a voice, & the right to know.
The Data Center Water & Transparency Act ensures communities have access to info about local water & energy impacts before decisions are made.
Tell Congress: Support transparency. cc:@SenatorDurbin#AIInfrastructure
Youth are asking about their future as new AI data centers are coming up. Questions about energy, water, sustainability, and long-term economic impact. Responsible AI starts with responsible infrastructure.

FYI: The lights are already flickering in VA's Data Center Alley due to data centers. What's going to happen when more are built?
WE SHOULD KNOW THE ANSWER BEFORE THEY ARE BUILT, don't ya think @SenatorDurbin? #TechAccountability#DataTransparency

📊 New @pewresearch polling:
• 39% say data centers are bad for the environment
• 38% say they're bad for home energy costs
• Only 4% say they're good for the environment
Communities deserve transparency about water, energy, and local impacts.#TechAccountability#DataCenters
Data centers shouldn’t get to play games with your energy bills. In the Senate, I’ll make sure data centers pay the full cost of their utilities, not you.
Erin Brockovich: "An average golf course could use 500 million gallons a year. But these super AI data centers can go up to 1.5 billion gallons of water per year."

The United States commands the vast majority of global data center infrastructure powering cloud and AI workloads.
America’s future depends on something most people never think about: the grid.
In a new short film by the Earthshot Foundation, BCSE's Lisa Jacobson reveals that America’s future depends on the infrastructure we choose to build today.

SB 4213 introduces reporting requirements for data centers’ water & energy usage.
Before communities have a say, Congress must hear the bill in committee.
Communities deserve a voice in decisions that impact them.

There are no transparency laws & no requirements for data centers to explain on the front end how many resources they devour during operation.
1.6X NYC Central Park is staggering ... how much energy will that use and what will it cost tax payers? #AIInfrastructure
To give some perspective, the MASSIVE Project Jupiter data center is 1.6X the size of NY’s Central Park!
Here’s how Big Tech is using it as a blueprint for how to push polluting data centers into our communities while skating permitting requirements ⬇️ https://t.co/mIDPhP5Nba
Country Music Is Coming Out Strong Against Data Centers
From Brad Paisley and Willie Nelson to Tanya Tucker and even Gavin Adcock, country artists are decrying the industrial facilities.

Memphis is home to Elon Musk’s data center empire — and the polluting turbines xAI uses to power them appear to be making residents sick.
Justin Pearson has been leading the fight against them, and is now running for Congress to elevate the fight to protect his community.
Pearson is running in a district that Tennessee Republicans just gerrymandered, but in sticking to his progressive working class values, and channeling the rage at xAI's noise, pollution, and lawlessness, he could pull off a historic upset.
Texas has hundreds of data centers. Colorado has dozens.
The Data Center Coalition lobbyist explains why. Texas taxpayers foot the bill for data center tax exemptions.
⚡ Did you notice the lights flicker last Weds?
OnJuly 22, power briefly flickered across much of the Eastern U.S. for about 10 min. As digital infrastructure grows, so does the challenge of keeping the electric grid reliable.
#TechAccountability#CleanEnergy#DataInfrastructure
"Data Center Alley" a section of Virginia with the densest concentration of data centers in the country, caused the power to flicker across the East Coast.
On Wednesday, July 22nd the electricity flickered on and off for about 10 minutes throughout the Eastern U.S., from Chicago to Boston to Miami.
The cause appears to be a concentration of data centers straining the grid.
