I think sometimes neurodivergent people can get hung up on the literal content of small talk, like 'How are you?' 'Any fun plans for the weekend?' etc because I read a thing once about how in the animal kingdom you basically have to make friendly noises to indicate you're unthreatening to others, and once I started thinking of small talk as just the intent of making friendly noises it became a lot easier to engage with
