@KevinMyattWx I had been working in Kingsport, TN, where it was falling as a cold rain. As I headed north on I-81, it changed to snow just north of Abingdon. By the time I got to Marion, the road was covered and traffic had slowed to a crawl. VDOT was obviously caught off-guard.

@KevinMyattWx I'm not sure the amounts, but the Roanoke area experienced successive ice storms in February and March of 1994. The last storm in this series in early March was especially crippling.
