@knowerofball05@ScoringChanges@gfulkerson35@GWRXAB@DuncanFarms@frankieferrucci@Cubs@Mets Dude, I did not beg for replay.
If anything, you’re the one defending replay. The Mets challenged.
Everything else we are discussing is interpretation/opinion, including whether or not PCA would have stayed on or come off the bag without the tag. Need to agree to disagree.
@knowerofball05@ScoringChanges@gfulkerson35@GWRXAB@DuncanFarms@frankieferrucci@Cubs@Mets It’s clear you didn’t watch the play. If it’s not ball 4, he’s out by tag before he reaches the base. The tag is the ONLY reason he is not continuously in contact with the base. It’s the actions of the fielder that cause peril BEFORE arriving. This isn’t what replay is for.
@knowerofball05@ScoringChanges@gfulkerson35@GWRXAB@DuncanFarms@frankieferrucci@Cubs@Mets Did you watch the play? It’s pretty obvious that the tag which occurred before either hand touched the base caused a large, unnatural gap between the hands and forced his chest up off the ground/bag. If it wasn’t a walk (e.g., ball 3), he’s out by tag before he reaches the base.
@knowerofball05@ScoringChanges@gfulkerson35@GWRXAB@DuncanFarms@frankieferrucci@Cubs@Mets Rules require interpretation & hence clarification. The rules say runners advance without liability on a walk. The fielder in this case imposes a liability that fails to meet the spirit & letter of the rule. Also there are rules for safe when fielder forces a runner off base.
@knowerofball05@ScoringChanges@gfulkerson35@GWRXAB@DuncanFarms@frankieferrucci@Cubs@Mets If the runner over slides by his own actions, I agree. That happens a lot in lower & sometimes in MLB. Alas, in this case, it is the actions of the fielder who has prevented the player to advance without liability & has caused the separation by restraining the runners left hand.
@ScoringChanges@gfulkerson35@GWRXAB@knowerofball05@DuncanFarms@frankieferrucci@Cubs@Mets I say clarified, since I believe the current rule book has room for the interpretation where the action of tagging the runner impedes the runner from advancing without liability & the runners inability to maintain the base is caused by the fielder, not by the action of the runner
@johnrabe Rules should be clarified to say something like any time a runner who is entitled to advance without liability is touched by a fielder prior to arriving at said base, the ball should be dead & the runner shall be awarded the base & possibly additional bases at umpires discretion.
@johnrabe It’s the tag that impeded what should have otherwise been a free advance without liability. He did not overslide. The tag applied before reaching the base is the only thing that caused there to be a gap. If he overslide of his own momentum, I’d agree with the out call.
@BlackCoffeeSobr@ScoringChanges@AlexHossfeld@S3XYev@SNYtv Rules should be clarified to say something like any time a runner who is entitled to advance without liability is touched by a fielder prior to arriving at said base, the ball should be dead & the runner shall be awarded the base & possibly additional bases at umpires discretion.

@alx_scz@WinstonHoward@0xBGoat@ScoringChanges He did not overshoot the bag. If you watch the play, his right hand hits the bag, but the left is being held back by the tag, so his right hand comes off just before his left comes through and hits the bag. Without the tag applied before either had hits the base, he’s 100% safe.
@paauilo11@SamOlbur If the rule book isn’t this clear, it should be. Anytime a runner is impeded by a fielder prior to arriving at the base to which they are entitled without liability, then they should be awarded that base and possibly additional bases at the umpire’s discretion.
@ScoringChanges@AlexHossfeld@BlackCoffeeSobr@S3XYev@SNYtv The umpires should have ruled that the fielder impeded the runners ability to securely reach the base without liability, since the tag delays his left hand hitting the base at the same time as his right hand and body. If his momentum overslide, I agree. He didn’t overslide.
@balkwhisperer Assume it’s the batter who secures the walk jogging to first base and the catcher throws down to the first baseman such that the fielder bumps the batter BEFORE he reaches first causing him to tumble on & over the base, the fielder applies a tag. Should he be out or interference?
