Academic Coordinator of WIL, Deakin Business School. PhD: consumer engagement within social media. Research focus: employability, entrepreneurship & marketing.
@s_palm@Picketer When they did the Barwon Heads rd near Marshall they had it the same for a few weeks then put down a final top coat that finished it off at gutter level.
@colesamanda Academia is a team sport, but so many people only think of it as individualistic.
My wife was working on a PhD, but abandoned it when a number of articles and industry reports came from the team without including her or acknowledging her work.
#ACEN2022 was jam packed. So many great presentations to choose from, so many I couldn’t fit in my schedule. Great representation from @Deakin. It was fantastic to finally meet so many people from across the #WIL space in person after collaborating online.
@_BonnieDean Thanks Bonnie.
I don’t know how many times I have read your work on the @UOW WIL framework as we think about what WIL means to the @DeakinBusiness school, but your presentation really brought the framework to life.
Great to see the work of Srikar and the first round of graduates emerge from this program.
Well done to Sameer, the team at ManuFutures, and broader @Deakin teams involved in getting this program going. Bigger things are coming.
Taking a break from talking to parents and future students at the #DeakinOpenDay. Plenty of great reasons to study with the @DeakinBusiness at the waterfront. Having this view everyday is just a bonus.
A 2020 Work-Learn Institute study on organizational perspectives on the contribution of work-integrated learning (WIL) found four main contributions of WIL to talent pipelines: https://t.co/cs32f7iNV6
@marjoriemccrory Thanks for the thread. This very much speaks to my style of teaching. I have always found a career foucus has really helped student engagement because it makes the value of the course/unit explicit.
@BlumJordan @73yearstoolong Fisher Price (owned by Mattel) have imaginext which look like softened versions of Dino-Riders and fit with their other sets (like Batman and Jurassic world). Have been very tempted to get these for my kids.
I agree with @DrGiesler, I have taught online seminars at @DeakinBusiness for a decade. I never expected video (or even audio) presence in seminars. Yes, broadband & tech have improved, but why do some people continue to equate visual presence as engagement?
@phillipdawson Untitled fourth effort sounds like a good option. But by the time lockdowns end and you can perform, the movie might have a title you can use.
@s_palm Great questions.
In the past we had a lot of non business students in our B&L WIL programs. It was great for everyone. I have had a couple of meeting lately looking to find more collaborative WIL projects.
Great reminder for academics moving between cloud and on-campus teaching not to push students to have cameras on for your own comfort. A visual on your screen does not necessarily mean more engagement, and a lack of visual does not equal disengagement.
@s_palm @DeakinBusiness Thanks for the prompt @s_palm. There were a few research topics discussed when the project started. I will definitely have to dust them off.
Glad to have helped get @DeakinBusiness WIL students involved in this project consistently over the last couple of years. I am looking forward to seeing the car hit the road in the future.
@IAmPaulHarrison We have it on a regular basis, generally fairly healthy. Depends on the mix in options we put out for the kids. But the family loves it.
@ProfConsumers@Macquarie_Uni Congrats. I really enjoyed this paper. My PhD was on CE and I cited your paper to support ideas, and especially as a counter to some of the other engagement literature. Thank you.
