The misinformation around GLP-1s is out of control, and it’s happening within the healthcare systems too.
And guess what? That confusion leads to delayed care, worse metabolic health, and patients scared to use medications that could literally save their lives.
We owe people better than fear based medicine.
Deciding if someone is “worthy” of medical treatment based on their weight is absurd. Healthcare is not a moral reward for having the “right” body size. Weight stigma and shaming is harmful at its core.
Belonging and psychological safety go hand in hand and are essential in any workplace - this makes me smile every time I go past it in school. Can't beat a bit of Brené Brown.
Most of the fat people I know are living off 1200-1500 kcal a day and doing their absolute best—at least 80% of them. Little do they know it’s all for nothing, because being fat is a metabolic issue, not a matter of weak will or laziness. They’re fat because they’re sick, not the other way around. They don’t realise that you can’t out-starve or out-exercise a low metabolism. The mainstream information available will never help them. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: fat shaming will not be tolerated on this page.
The problem with ‘experts’ on social media?
The people who speak most confidently typically know the LEAST. “The whole problem with this world is that only fools & zealots are sure of themselves and wise people are filled with doubts” -Bertrand Russell
This is an expert from my appearance on the Doctor Mike podcast where we discussed why it’s so difficult for people to know who is actually an expert
Real experts don’t use clickbait words: “best, worst, always, never” etc.
"The most important thing that you can do in your life is to sweat and get physically active [...] No aging drug, nothing. Nothing's going to be better than what exercise can do." - @foundmyfitness
Lost weight from 21 stone down to 15 stone, all lost since lockdown. Didn't mention it on social media or put on any new pics. Made to come in to work this week. Saw people for the first time in years, not a single fucker commented on it. Absolutely gutted.
Knowing how to get fit does not mean you understand anything about obesity.
Knowing how to treat obesity does not mean you understand the first thing about fitness.
People conflate these two quite often, but they are separate disciplines.
Why do some grown ass adults demonize fruit as having “too much sugar? It’s like, what did berries & apples ever do to you? Are they seriously putting fruit in the same category as snickers? It’s 2023 & some of us are out here still having to defend fruit 🤦🏾♀️😂😂😂
My mom saw this photo and said “your legs look huge” (derogatory)
Parents, please never speak to your children this way about their bodies. It doesn’t matter if they’re 5 or 35.
My “huge” legs are strong and beautiful. I wish my mom could see that too.
