Real question— in ya’ll’s opinions, is it possible to have an artistically satisfying life and also adequately take care of yourself and maintain relationships?
Because listen, I just want to continue to work on cool shit but also run marathons and pet my dog.
From all of us here at #WeConnectNPR, we send a hearty thank you to everyone who has been supporting us through our negotiations. We reached a Tentative Agreement with NPR and are heading to the ratification stage where we will vote whether to accept the new contract.
I am on site essential but sometimes even #audioengineers work from home! What do I bring to my job? Well, this morning I am working on #sounddesign curriculum. This afternoon I’m probably going to repair a ton of audio minutes before it airs. @WeConnectNPR#adayinalife
Mind you, @WeConnectNPR gave up our 2021 contractual increase to help @NPR during challenging COVID times, but now that economic times are especially challenging, there's no reciprocation. It's a long-standing pattern of us giving & NPR taking, but it never goes the other way.
@NPR is my primary source for news, podcasts, and audio entertainment. Nothing they produce would be worth listening to without the hardworking people at @WeConnectNPR. So until they have a new, FAIR, contract for these amazing technicians and engineers, I won't be listening.
If the mission of public media is important to you, you should support the @WeConnectNPR audio engineers who are just trying to maintain their standard of living. There have been no better stewards of the money entrusted to @npr than its union workers.
When @JortsTheCat gets mad that @NPR isn’t doing right by @WeConnectNPR, you know it’s time for a fair contract. Support union labor, pay the engineers!
the number of times i've sent a panicked email to our engineers @WeConnectNPR being like "im sorry my tape sounds like shit!!! help plz???" and they make it listenable is staggering. big ups to them, @NPR
Engineers are the reason why live broadcasts are possible at NPR.
They're the reason why my projects don't sometimes sound like a fuzzy mess.
And they deceive a fair contract.
NPR, do right by @WeConnectNPR
It's not just DC. Our members live in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago- all locations of @NPR's choosing. And these are easily four of the most expensive places to live in all of America. We're not asking for the moon. We're asking for enough to keep up. @WeConnectNPR
@stu_rush@NABETCWA@NPR@WeConnectNPR You can’t afford to lose your technicians and engineers. @NPR. You can’t have your shows and podcasts without them. Please give them a fair contract and give them what they deserve for their hard work!
Sending the engineers @WeConnectNPR all the well wishes. Hoping management invests in them...and also lets engineers train producers how to record cuz as someone who deals with LOTS of producers recordings...there's a lot they (and I!) don't know how to do.
The unit members of #WeConnectNPR do our absolute best to fix these types of things (even before they happen!). On @npr programming, you hear the work of HIGHLY skilled individuals putting their all in for a mission that we love.
@stu_rush@nprscottsimon@NPRWeekend@WeConnectNPR Just think of all the Zoom meetings and network TV interviews one hears with awful audio - fuzzy, reverberant, and with levels varying annoyingly from speaker to speaker.
Listening to @NPRWeekend with @nprscottsimon and grateful to my Audio Engineering colleagues making it happen. From connecting Scott from his home studio- to doing the live sound engineering- to making the sound you hear shine- none of it happens without @WeConnectNPR members!
NPR is an invaluable resource, powered by invaluable people. On this final day of the @NABETCWA contract for the engineers and technicians at NPR, we're counting on @NPR to deliver us a fair contract that we can accept today. We are NPR. @WeConnectNPR
@WeConnectNPR@NPR@WeConnectNPR audio engineers are highly and uniquely skilled. (… a skill set that is, ahem, in higher and higher demand.) They are our friends and partners in the studio and in every aspect of the news cycle.
