How the Reading Wars Are Destroying Our Schools
Note: this is a 1 1/2 hour podcast with ads in between but it is well worth listening to the entire thing. Here are just a few point.
"The reading wars has little to do with literacy or meaningful pedagogical debates. Instead, it serves more like a proxy war for political battles that shape the structures and systems of schools." (for personal agenda and financial gain).
"This so-called war distracts teachers from being able to be professional actors in shaping students' education and divides us from being able to find accurately researched and sound advice - all while public schools collapse around us politically and financially under the pressure of outside forces."
"The way the reading wars is being fought by large actors is harming young people and public educators through these political wars. If we're not critical about The Science of Reading, we are endorsing the so-called SUPERPOWERS that are guiding this discussion and putting us into a situation where we are pseudo-endorsing many dangerous people who are looking to co-opt a narrow view of research as a doctrine for transforming schools."

FOR EVERYONE (TEACHERS) ASKING ABOUT RECORDING READINGS OF THE BOOKS: I just checked with MY publisher, and they said it’s technically not allowed, BUT as long as you can keep it somewhere only students can access, (like your own channel on YT) it’s fine.
It’s hard... It’s messy and yes it’s worth it- but dang some days...
