As part of their Collegiate Athletic Solutions partnership, the firms RedBird and Weatherford Capital are co-investing the infusion into the Big 12.
However, the partners will hold no ownership in the league and the deal will not change the governance of the conference.
Florida St is going for the kill shot against the ACC in FL state court.
If it’s successful on this motion for summary judgment, it could leave the ACC and take its tv rights with it to a new conference.
Without having to pay for the right to get those tv rights back.
@cyclonefanatic Whether you are in the ACC or BIG 12, or at the bottom half of the SEC and Big 10, you are at the same financial disadvantage, and therefore competitive disadvantage on the feild. College football should break away into a league which plays by the same rules.
“If I was a member of the Big Ten or SEC, I’d
start looking over myshoulder and wondering when is the day going to come when the top of the SEC is not going to want the bottom of the SEC.”
Pollard had a strong statement surrounding the landscape of college athletics.
“Those with the gold will make the rules.”

@IMGAcademy has had more @NFLDraft picks over the last 6 years than any other school has in the previous 10 years. Last night, they made history as the second high school with two first-round picks.

Gerry Cardinale of Redbirds Capital is doing a great job of explaining how and why private equity is coming to college athletics.
As he says, college athletics is a hugely undervalued asset.
Says it needs to consolidate its media rights like they do in the NFL.

NEWS: NCAA president Charlie Baker is proposing the creation of a new FBS subdivision that would allow the highest-resource schools to compensate athletes directly through a trust as well as NIL:
devastated. heartbroken. In so much disbelief rn, I wish my leg broke earlier in the season so y’all could see this team is much more than the quarterback. I thought results matter. 13-0 and this roster matches up across any team in those top 4 rankings. I am so sorry. Go Noles!
The SEC and Big 10 already have a $500mm financial advantage against the ACC over the next 10 years, and now we are setting a precedent that even a one-loss SEC team is better than an undefeated team from any other conference. This flies in the face of what competition is about.
What this decision highlights most is that the Big Ten and SEC are viewed as superior conferences, and if you aren't in one of those conferences, you are at a disadvantage. The ACC was 6 and 4 against the SEC this year.
“This is not just about football or basketball or sports, it’s about the health and wellbeing of the university.”

Good read from @WeatherfordDrew, there are a lot of bits I like in this.
But rather than the current unsustainable model, the power football programs ought to separate from the NCAA-- they'll make more money and the smaller programs will benefit too.
