A lot of drama coming out of Bitcoin and Ethereum "governance systems" or dev discord chats. Solana doesn't even have one that i know of, just dictates upgrades.

While in a corner of L1 blockchain technology there was a node floor vote with a live transparent mechanism tracking each vote and the gradual transition to the next version of the protocol.

Plus each funding for public goods Developer projects is continuously being democratically voted through Reti staking and the xGov smart contract platform.

A comparison of the hardware costs of running Algorand and Solana validator nodes

Solana requires server-grade memory, and memory prices have surged recently due to shortages.

That certainly doesn't help decentralization or make it easier for ordinary people to run a validator.
