@Mikey92D@MarkCHealey Dude I really feel for the great fans of Pittsburgh. You have a wonderful historic franchise, one of the best parks in the game, serious young talent and the owner just wont spend??? Maddening.
No and you’re right that it isn’t the whole picture but it is an ingredient. Teams decide not to spend because they’re in favor of taking the money. Now, those same teams prob also think “well, we can’t spend with the big clubs so screw it… we aren’t spending at all” which is also an issue. They have to do something. I’m simply saying, these teams that don’t spend COULD spend. The could spend something
I re walking the Braves new stadium in its first year with some of the front office ppl. They told me their plan to build up the area all around the park and were pretty forthcoming about how any $ made Inside the park MLB takes a cut but all the surrounding area could be used to support the team without MLB taking their cut. The area around the Braves park is amazing. Giant music venue, restaurants galore, packed bars and live music just in the streets. They’re def bringing in a lot of $ from that but I don’t know that the Braves are near the top of the league in spending. I know they’re good. Silly good. After a down year too, they’ve come back and look like the team to beat but I always wonder how much their own creativity in terms of the metropolis they built around the park helps.
Your point has merit. I get it. The Pirates COULD spend though… that’s the thing here… they choose not to. Every team in baseball could spend some money if they wanted. They choose to MAKE money and not reinvest. No team doesn’t make money… they get awfully creative with the books but the Pirates could absolutely afford to supplement their roster. They just don’t. Now we are gonna give them money and force them to spend? Shit, maybe. I want the Pirates spending!
Yeah totally. There’s so much vitriol pointed at Mendoza over this and I just don’t get it… he had his guys and a tiring Manea who’s velo was dipping… we needed 9 outs from our front line guys and didn’t get them. There is little room for moral victories, especially when the @mets are down bad BUT, we played them tough and almost won with 2 hits! Gotta be better today but hopefully the guys think they can beat this team. They can. Will they? Hmmmm…
@SStrom_ Wow, terrific. Really fantastic stuff! I love hearing Gary so candid and have his own humanity spotlit. I know ppl say they love the radio broadcast but… the @mets@SNY broadcast is my fav way to take in a game.
Yeah, this team hasn’t done much to inspire any confidence that a corner has been turned, especially with the schedule about to get increasingly harder BUT… getting Polanco and Alvy back will help. Then Lindor and maybe some arms can get healthy and contribute.. a newer @mets fan asked me yesterday “So there’s still a chance?” and I had to tell em “Of course dude. The season goes till the end of September. They could go an a tear and win 11 in a row but has this team taught you that they’re capable of doing that?” - he was relieved that there is still a chance and ya know what, So am I. But I expect reality to land once again. I’m hopeful though… even tho a smart man once said “Hope is not a strategy” lol
Alvy will drive you mad but… if he was league average, again… that’s average amongst the very best players in the world. I’d take that all day but even here he’s above league average. My eyes till me Alvy isn’t very good but he brings some pop and his numbers say he’s a good player just… we all keep waiting for him to realize the potential
@chrispernadrums Ah man, a singular kind of hurt friend. I’m awfully sorry. The days get easier with some time… I mean, put simply, this hurts like hell
Do other teams not deal with injuries though? I always assume, perhaps wrongly, that it’s league wide. Also, even if it is/isnt isn’t I have to imagine they have the greatest docs and med staff to protect their investments. It does boggle my mind that at 46 years old I can do to my body what I do and I’ve (knock on ALL the wood), never had a serious injury. Now, ppl will say “bro you’re not a professional athlete” but time after time pro athletes are shocked at how physical my job is. I can lose 4.5lbs of sweat in just 45 min. Can you imagine? In order to DO my job I do my show day work which is (1k butt kicks- 1k high knees- 80 push ups- 40 burpees) and my off day work is a long run (yesterday 7.6 miles in 60 min) and guys in way better shape than me get hurt running 90 feet. I know I’m not a pro athlete but… I’m a chunky 46 year old. How on Earth do they get hurt so often!?
Just wait till the strearns defenders get ahold of this. How ANYONE could still believe this dude has a clue is beyond me. It’s beyond me. Stearns is in way over his head. Does cohen have no street smarts? Stearns reminds me of a self assured swindler. He has his formulas and his numbers but… clearly it ain’t working. Plus I’m telling ya right now the players don’t like Stearns. His cold demeanor making an already heartless game even more stone hearted doesn’t sit well with a lot of the players I bet. His hitting philosophy has failed the @mets at every level. They’re dead last in walks and ops or close to in every league. We are in big trouble. I suppose my best case scenario is eventually it takes hold and in 5-7 years we have the true Stearns roster and it works. Long way away tho
