Pat McFadden's big Labour conference offer for disabled young people: access to the Job Guarantee after 3 months instead of 18, employers get 6 months of wage cover. That's it. Nearly a million young people are NEET and this is a timing change, not a fix. #WelfareReform#DWP
Statistics out this week show 4.1m now claim PIP, with the caseload surging from 3.5m to 5.4m in five years. Our system needs to change, to support those in need while ensuring it builds them up instead of encouraging dependency. #WelfareReform#PIP

WIN Founder @LanaHempsall wrote for @theipaper on why the UK must reform #PIP to ensure that the #welfare system can actually provide support for the most vulnerable.

It's been over 400 days since the Timms Review into disability benefits was launched, and Britain still has diagnosis without treatment.
My latest in ConHome on why it's time for action: https://t.co/KXh1y5Lfp8
I spoke with @TalkTV about the Gov’s recent #TimmsReview.
Our #welfare system needs an overhaul, starting with the eligibility criteria.
But given the backlash from MPs when the Gov last attempted welfare reform, will the new PM even be willing to act on the review’s findings?
635,218 households receive more in benefits than the average worker takes home. 16,000 receive over £60,000 a year.
Helen Whately’s proposal to close the disability exemption loophole in the benefit cap is a coherent response to that data. If a capable adult in a household chooses not to work, the cap should apply. That was always the intent.
£1 billion saved annually. A welfare system that commands public trust needs to be seen as fair. These numbers suggest it isn’t there yet.

2,000 people a day funnelled onto out-of-work benefits. Very few ever come off them. Labour’s big reform? Push the deadline to 2028. That’s not reform. That’s procrastination.

Part 1 of the Milburn report was published today showing a dramatic rise of young people not in employment, education, or training.
I'm glad the Government is finally starting to pay attention but the scale of this crisis means the UK must take urgent action.
#milburnreport
Utterly ridiculous.
Nobody is actually talking about withdrawing *all* support, just ensuring that those who don’t need it, aren’t taking valuable resources from those who genuinely need help
This article by @Simmons__ builds on the @ukonward report on the hidden benefits system that is making it harder and harder for people to transition into paid work

The Government is finally starting to address some of the ludicrous expenses that are allowed under Motability. Until the scheme is fundamentally rethought it will not be able to help the most vulnerable.

I appeared on Channel 4 alongside @Helen_Whately to discuss how my own experience has showed me the importance of getting young people into work and off of benefits.

I'm discussing my reflections on last week's panel event, hosted by @ukonward, which focused on hidden benefits in our welfare system.
If you have your own experience navigating the benefits system, get in touch through the link in the bio!

Great to be part of the @ukonward panel of hidden benefits in the welfare system earlier this week. Such an important issue, and one that demonstrates the backwards nature of our current system.
Listen to the full conversation on Onward's YouTube channel.
Today I’m at @ukonward discussing the hidden costs of passported benefits and how we can prevent them from becoming barriers to employment.

Recent reforms have barely scratched the surface of the fundamental issues the scheme presents.
Motability continues to leach off the benefit system and is growing bigger every year.
My recent article explains why real reform is a necessity: https://t.co/PoALlccaow
