Headen is the Democratic nominee against Republican Rep. John Blust in House District 62. Accounts carrying her name and photo posted a smiling Dachau crematorium picture with the caption, “This is where Trump supporters belong.”

After Kamala Harris became the 2024 nominee she wrote on X, “I’m so excited! Ready for the MAGAs to d*e off!!” A Facebook comment said, “I think our only hope is an attack on US soil … preferably Alabama, Louisiana … where the stupid people live.”

The North Carolina House Democratic Caucus called the posts “unacceptable” and said it “will not support Shelly Headen’s candidacy.” Guilford County Democrats pulled money and volunteers and called the language “completely indefensible.”

Asked about the posts, Headen told The Assembly she “can’t remember” the exact wording, then said, “I’ve sacrificed myself just like Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross, and Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln.” She remains on the ballot because absentee ballots already went out.
