@csoandy Letting people explain also helps set up what they know on the subject and what you know they know. Plus it gives opportunities to ask questions to dive deeper into the subject.

There is no such thing as perfect expertise with nothing more to learn. I learn more about my expertise when others explain their understanding to me and get in a conversation. Are they often repeating what I already know? Sure, but that’s just setting up the playing field.

In my experience, the people who get most offended by the ‘splaining interaction are often the people with big, fragile, egos. They can’t handle an interaction where they might not be the perfect authority, so they attack the other person, rather than have a conversation.
