@JamesMarsh79 Honoring one's parents looks different from family to family. Some are stubbornly independent. Some require boundaries. Some live far away. Others live around the corner. Some move in. We do our best, which is never perfect - a lot like parenting itself.
@JamesMarsh79 I've wondered if it's some sort of is convenient, easy meal containing produce. EX: Did they buy, wash and chop the salad or did they buy a bag of pre-mixed salad and not wash it. No clue, of course, and not really following but I've wondered if it's tied to convenience.
@JamesMarsh79 I'm going to make clear, if I'm still living at 85, I'm not aiming for more longevity. So, don't suggest things that will prolong life, only increases quality of life.
@Johnsmithtjq@nntaleb Samaria is the remnant of the Northern Tribe of Israel that was conquered by the Assyrians and who mixed with their conquerers; those who were allowed to stay that is. Iron Age event. It's very interesting. 800ish left today. Beliefs diverged after being conquered.
@JamesMarsh79 In my experience, imperfections & all, some family members will always be there for you. You were there for your mom and dad. If not you, then who? We are there for our parents. We have cousins who are "constant." Others not. A few friends have stood the test of time too.
@nntaleb And thanks to all the people out there doing what it takes. My sphere of influence is small. I'm not overly political but I appreciate the people out there getting the job done, even if loud, messy, and seemingly illogical at times. Thank God for checks and balances.
@nntaleb I keep telling my kids (20s) that it's messy, it's slow but we get there in the end. Some of the supreme court's recent decisions are backing me up. :)
@nntaleb My parents never drank. They are in quite good health for 88 years old. They aren't crazy, fitness types. They've just aged well. They aren't rooting to live many more years. Longevity to a point is fine but beyond it? I'll keep my G&Ts!
