As we fight to create more disaster and flood-ready communities and expand access to resources that achieve that end, we should focus on securing incremental but influential wins that move our nation, states, and localities forward.
Today Ann and I remember our friend and my former press secretary Jeri Bustamante on her birthday. Jeri was a kind and sweet soul that was taken from us too soon.
We will never forget her and we will always cherish the memories we have of her.
On June 17th I will be hosting a Hurricane Preparedness Conference in Orlando.
We will be bringing together partners from the state, local, federal government and the private sector to discuss what more we can do to protect our families & businesses.
“It is clear that the status quo is inadequate. It’s time to stop wasteful spending and repeated repairs and instead invest in quality upgrades and redesign through effective mitigation tactics that buy down risk, save lives and reduce financial strain.”

Before, during and after Hurricane Michael, @FLSERT oversaw the deployment of 437 ambulances, 125 paratransit vehicles, and supported more than 5,000 patient movements. Thank you to all our health and medical partners for their dedication and hard work!
@FLSERT pre-staged response assets including operational comms capabilities, search & rescue and ambulance strike teams all around Hurricane Michael’s anticipated area of impact. This allowed for an unprecedented and overwhelming response pre & post-landfall by land, air, and sea
Proud that the Division received another glowingly positive review from @EMAP_US for the fourth consecutive time. @FLSERT was the first state emergency management agency in the country to receive EMAP accreditation and continues to set the standard for excellence nationally.
Congratulations to retiring @FLSERT Chief and civil servant Leo Lachat. Leo has served Florida since 1987 and has helped guide the State through countless emergencies. Thank you for your dedication and your friendship, Leo. Wishing you the best in all of your future endeavors.
For Hurricane Michael, more than 7,000 missions were managed by @FLSERT. That’s more than Hurricane Irma in 2017. Equivalent to 2004 or 2005 storms combined. More than 2009-2016 storms combined. @FLSERT provided a historic response to a historic storm.
Congratulations to @JaredEMoskowitz and thank you for your willingness to serve as the next Director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management. The great team at the Division will continue to lead the nation.
Director @WesMaul joins local elected officials that comprise the Long Term Recovery Task Force in Bay County for their first meeting at the county government center. The task force will implement the National Disaster Recovery Framework put in place by @FEMA.
As hurricane season comes to an end, I would like to once again thank our incredible law enforcement, first responders & linemen for helping thousands of Floridians following Hurricane Michael. The season may be ending, but we must never let our guard down!
The Florida Panhandle is my home. I have been honored to lead the quick and effective response effort to this catastrophic and unprecedented storm, and I look forward to every step of what I am confident will be a speedy and successful recovery for these communities. (4/4)
Our leverage of this proven system allows us to restore, redevelop and revitalize the health, social, economic and environmental fabric of impacted communities, ensuring that they are able to recover stronger, safer and more vibrant than they were before this tragic storm. (3/4)
The NDRF is a guide that enables effective recovery support to disaster-impacted areas by allowing us to operate in a unified and collaborative manner with our federal and local partners. (2/4)
As Florida transitions into the long-term recovery process from Hurricane Michael, we will ensure that the process is as expeditious, effective, and comprehensive as possible by following the National Disaster Recovery Framework (NDRF). (1/4)
