It's #GunStorageCheckWeek!
We have a limited supply of free gun locks available. Stop by the front desk at the Public Safety Center (9110 Yates St) to pick one up while supplies last. Once they're gone, they're gone!
Gun owners are encouraged to review their firearm storage practices and help prevent unauthorized or unwanted access to firearms. Secure storage can help prevent accidents and threats!
EMERGENCY ALERTS TEST | On Wednesday, June 3, beginning in the morning, Westminster will be part of a regional emergency alerts test. Testing these systems helps ensure we can quickly reach our community when real emergencies occur. Be sure you are ready to receive the alerts with a few simple steps:
Lookout Alert
- Westminster’s localized opt-in system, with alerts from Westminster Police and Fire
- Receive critical alerts through text, phone calls, and email – whether you are home or not!
- Registration required at: https://t.co/WnWqDLuQNK
Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA)
- Push alerts sent directly to cell phones in a specific geographic area
- Often used for large-scale evacuation orders or weather emergencies
- No sign-up required, but ensure that Emergency Alerts are enabled in your phone settings
Not every person will receive every type of alert during the test. Delivery may depend on device settings, wireless carrier participation, phone location, registration information, and other technical factors. Receiving or not receiving this test does not necessarily mean a phone or account is not working. This system-wide test will be in Westminster, Broomfield, Jefferson County, and Clear Creek County.
We encourage you to use this opportunity to confirm you are signed up for local emergency alerts, whether you live in Westminster or elsewhere!
Welcome, Teen Police Academy Class of 2026!
This is our largest class yet, and we're excited to partner with @ArvadaPolice to give this group a behind-the-scenes look at the world of law enforcement.
Throughout this week-long program, teens gain a deeper understanding of policing through demonstrations and hands-on training. So far, they've tackled arrest control techniques, police simulators, Stop the Bleed training, a Flight for Life demonstration, and range instruction.
A huge thanks to the Westminster Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association and all our instructors for making this happen! We're looking forward to an exciting week! #WestyPD
HEADS UP | Flight For Life will be landing today between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on the north side of the Public Safety Center located at 9110 Yates St. This is a scheduled training event and not an emergency.
During this time, officers will temporarily close the Yates St entrance. Access to the Public Safety Center and City Hall will remain available via 92nd Ave. Thank you for your patience!

Let's goooo!! Last week, we joined Standley Lake High School students and staff in the Murphy Challenge, honoring the sacrifice of our nation’s heroes.
More than 27 students, 4 faculty members, and several #WPD officers took on the challenge, and absolutely crushed it.
- 1 mile run to start
- 100 pull-ups
- 200 push-ups
- 300 air squats
- 1 mile run to finish
We were proud to cheer everyone on, sweat a little, and survive together. Nicely done, gators! #WestyPD
HEADS UP | Like many cities across the metro area, WPD is seeing an increase in copper wire and backflow preventer thefts in Westminster.
Thieves are targeting copper wiring in light poles and in-ground electrical boxes. Known locations impacted include the Westminster RTD Station, downtown Westminster, the US 36 corridor, and cell phone towers.
We are also seeing backflow preventers being stolen from homes under construction, parks, and office buildings. These crimes are costing our local residents and businesses thousands of dollars!
Please, please be vigilant and if you see something suspicious, call 911 immediately. We'd love to surprise these thieves and catch them in the act!
Goodbye homework, hello summer!
Wow, what a year it has been! As students head into summer break, we want to give a huge shoutout to our School Resource Officers for another incredible school year serving our schools and community.
This school year, our SRO team logged more than 1,132 engagements and educational activities! Anything from after-school sporting events and activities, to career fairs, classroom presentations and assemblies. The WPD SRO Team includes 7 SROs and 1 Sergeant, who serve 44 schools across Westminster.
It’s truly a honor to serve our community and help guide the next generation.
And of course, congratulations to all the seniors who graduated this year! We're so proud! #WestyPD
Units on scene of a townhome fire near 100th Avenue & Federal Boulevard. Fire is out. Investigator on scene. Pertinent updates provided once known.
We’re here to help. As May comes to a close, we want to remind our community during #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth that support is available.
#WPD’s Co-Responder Unit pairs mental health and case management professionals with police officers, fire department personnel, and other city employees to respond to crisis-related events throughout the city. The team responds to more than 1,000 calls in our community every year.
Co-Responders help de-escalate situations, stabilize individuals in crisis, assess needs and risk and connect community members with the appropriate services and resources.
If you or someone you know is experiencing a life-threatening crisis, call 911 and request a Co-Responder. If you would like to speak with a Co-Responder but are not in immediate crisis, please call 303-706-3100.

Man with active warrants arrested after brief chase
Recently officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near 104th Ave and Sheridan Ave. When #WPD officers arrived, they quickly located the vehicle in question which was unoccupied with a gun inside.
Soon after that, a man returned to the vehicle carrying a gas can. He briefly spoke with officers, who determined he had two active warrants and a caution that he may be armed with a handgun.
The man then took off, and the chase was on ... even though he was told several times to stop. Officers quickly caught up to him and took him into custody without incident. Next time maybe he'll think twice before running. #WestyPD

On this #MemorialDay, we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice and courage will always be remembered.
Animal Management Officer rescues dog stuck in pond
Earlier this week, AMO Wood responded to a call about a dog trapped in a pond at a local golf course. With the water too deep to safely reach, AMO Wood used a leash and towel to carefully lift the pup to safety.
The rescued dog, Luna, was evaluated and safely reunited with her family. #WestyPD
DID YOU KNOW? Use our Safe Exchange Zone for online transactions
WPD encourages community members to use our parking lot as a designated Safe Exchange Zone when completing transactions arranged through Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, Craigslist and other online platforms.
WPD Address: 9110 Yates St, Westminster, CO 80031
Our parking lot provides a well-lit location at a police facility to help promote safer exchanges between buyers and sellers. While we encourage the use of this space, WPD personnel are not able to participate in transactions, act as official witnesses, provide legal advice, or mediate civil or pricing disputes. Officers may only intervene if a safety concern or criminal matter arises.
Safety tips for completing online transactions:
◾Only do transactions with local buyers/sellers
◾Do not go to a transaction alone
◾Make sure a friend or family member is aware of the transaction details
◾Insist on meeting in a public area like our safe transaction zones

We'll be hosting more #CoffeeWithACop events throughout the year!
Truly a honor to stand alongside law enforcement from across the nation during Police Week in Washington, D.C. Last week, several #WPD officers attended to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.
One of the most powerful moments of the week is the annual Candlelight Vigil, where the names of fallen officers newly engraved on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial are read aloud and remembered. #NeverForgotten #PoliceWeek
