Yes, this Clicky Ponting thing is funny and yes it's pretty shocking cheating, but it does bother me how the whole internet seems to be piling on on this one man we don't even know. He's a person at the end of the day with a family. Think before you post
Weโre really pleased to announce that we have lifted the hosepipe restrictions and weโd like to thank all our customers for your support in saving water over the recent months.
That means from today (Wednesday 10 December 2025), the restrictions in Yorkshire have ended with our reservoir levels now around 91.6%, which is above where they should be for this time of year. To find out more, watch this video with Andy at Eccup reservoir > https://t.co/jQpIXA8jn9
Although we have now lifted restrictions, itโs still really important that we all continue to save water where we can. Even small habit changes can help and give our reservoirs the best chance to keep topping up over the winter, ahead of the warmer months next year. You can find lots of water saving tips on our website > https://t.co/ntLVWwzFqM

Weโve decided to lift restrictions now as weโve made significant progress in managing our water resources, which is only made possible due to everyoneโs collective efforts and the recent weather. We also saw a lot of rainfall in October and November, which helped to provide a strong boost to our reservoir levels, so this, alongside our combined efforts has meant they are now back to normal levels for this time of year.

This year, we had a long spell of unusually warm and dry weather, which meant our reservoirs needed more time to fill up again. Thankfully, theyโve now filled back up and are ready to meet water needs throughout winter and into next spring and summer. As Yorkshire has been officially in a drought since June, we applied for and received drought permits after restrictions were brought in. These permits allowed us to take more water from rivers while also reducing the amount of water released from reservoirs. We had to introduce the hosepipe restrictions to get these permits, as we wouldnโt have received them otherwise. This careful planning was crucial to make sure we could meet future water needs, even though it meant keeping the restrictions longer than we hoped.

We know that itโs not all down to our customers to save water, and we have been working to save as much as we can. Our teams have been working around the clock to find and fix leaks faster, and have repaired over 14,000 since April. Weโve adjusted our water treatment processes to reduce waste, make sure our reservoirs fill efficiently and move water around using our grid network. Weโve also increased our investment in infrastructure to safeguard Yorkshireโs water supply, which included bringing a borehole back into service at Heck and reinstating one at Carlton Mill Lane, and upgrading the Loftsome Bridge facility to make it more resilient and maximise how much water it treated. Crucial work at Thornton Moor has also been completed to ensure our Leeming and Leeshaw reservoirs remain in a healthy condition. Weโreโฏalso continuingโฏto roll out our mains replacement programme to upgrade 1000km of water mains, replacing 120km so far, and our smart meter exchange programme to update over 1 million smart meters by 2030.โฏ

We know this is a concern, especially after such a dry spell like the one we experienced in Yorkshire this spring. While we can't say for sure if there will be hosepipe restrictions next year, as much depends on factors like the weather, we always want to make sure we're taking care of our water resources together. That's why we continue to encourage everyone to use water wisely. By being mindful of how we use water, we can all help reduce the chances of needing restrictions.
Together, our efforts will make sure that thereโs enough water to supply everyone in Yorkshire.
