When I was Muslim, I never asked who built the golden calf. I just knew it was a sin in the desert.

Then I read both accounts and one detail stopped me cold.

In the Bible, the man who builds the golden calf is AARON. Moses’ own brother. The first high priest. Exodus 32:4.

He gathers the gold, melts it, shapes the idol. And when Moses confronts him, he gives the weakest excuse in scripture: “I threw the gold in the fire and out came this calf.” As if it made itself.

Bro. The Bible just put the worst sin in the camp in the hands of the holiest man in the camp.

You would NEVER write that if you were protecting your prophets.

Now read the Quran. Surah 20. Aaron is cleared. Innocent. He tried to stop it. The blame goes to a mystery man called “al-Samiri.” The Samaritan. Surah 20:85.

You know what shook me? The Bible incriminates its own high priest.

The Quran writes him an alibi and invents a villain.

One reads like an honest record. The other like damage control.

And there’s a second problem with that villain. “The Samaritan.” But Samaritans didn’t exist in Moses’ time.

The city of Samaria wasn’t founded until about 500 years later, under King Omri. 1 Kings 16:24.

It’s like putting a Texan at the Last Supper.

Now, some Muslim scholars push back — they say “Samiri” means something else. I’ll be fair, that argument exists. But their own classical commentators read it as “the Samaritan” for centuries.

The defense only works by re-translating away from how the tradition always understood it.

I used to say the Bible was corrupted. But the Bible is honest enough to say the high priest built the idol.

Only a book honest about how bad we are could point me to a Savior real enough to fix it.

The Bible never flattered Aaron. It didn’t flatter me either. It just told me the truth, and handed me Jesus.

Please let me be very clear here.

Thousands and thousands and thousands of white girls were allowed to be gang-raped by Muslim men EXACTLY because these men were Muslim.

We are seeing it over and over in our inquiry hearings.

Police even deliberately left these girls with their abusers against the desperate pleading from parents.

They did not want to be called racist. They did not want to upset community relations.

It was EVERYWHERE.

The police leadership responsible shouldn’t just lose their jobs. They should be prosecuted and thrown in prison, along with any public official who knew about these crimes and deliberately concealed them.

I would rather be called a racist than enable or allow rape. Every single time.

I know that the vast majority of decent British people agree, so how has this been allowed to fester away for so very long?

It must change. It is now changing.

Here's a good preaching myth: there is no evidence that Gehenna/ the Valley of Hinnon was a literal perpertually burning trash dump, or that it's where all the refuse and waste from Jerusalem was burned, including human and animal bodies, or that it was the most disgusting and horrifying place on earth.

There is no biblical support for this, neither is there any literary sources or archaeological data from the intertestamental or rabbinic periods to suggest this. In fact, near as anyone can tell, the earliest mention we have of this theory comes a Rabbi named David Kimhi who wrote a commentary on Psalm 27 in the 13th Century. He remarked:

“Gehenna is a repugnant place, into which filth and cadavers are thrown, and in which fires perpetually burn in order to consume the filth and bones; on which account, by analogy, the judgement of the wicked is called ‘Gehenna.’

That’s it. That’s the earliest reference we have to it- a Rabbi writing in the middle ages from Europe, not Israel, some 1100 years after Jesus was born.

He does not tell us where he got that information from and that is all we hear of it. There’s nothing before that. There is no mention in the tons upon tons of writings we have from Church Fathers, Christian and Jewish writers, or even secular writers for that matter. Its a blank slate until this commentary pops up, and there's no reason to suppose it's true.

How should we respond to this great truth? The answer is found in Matthew 5:48, where Jesus said, “You are to be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Considered outside of its context, this demand should shake us to the core because we know that none of us are perfect or will be perfect until the day we stand before God in glory.

However, it will not trouble the believer who understands the grace of God in Christ. When we become convinced that we are fully and immutably loved and accepted in Christ, we can strive for greater sanctification, even perfection, because we know our performance in no way determines our standing before God.

We are loved even when we fail, even when we fall.

When I was a little boy, I admired those circus performers who walked from one high pole to another on a tightrope. It seemed exhilarating but far too dangerous to attempt. However, I thought I could manage it, even enjoy it, if there was a safety net below the tightrope.

Similarly, we can attempt Christlikeness, even to be perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect, when we are convinced the grace of God will always catch us.

Be encouraged. You are greatly loved.

Learn to walk in that love and aspire to grow in sanctification without fear.

Set your goals extremely high — even to be conformed to Christ and perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect — because your standing and worth before God are not determined by whether you attain them.

Christ settled that issue long ago on Calvary.
