Did you know that in South Africa these terms have a clear legal difference? Next time you spot a special, pay close attention to the wording on the pack.

Beef mince is 100% minced meat with no additives or fillers allowed.

Ground beef, on the other hand, is typically mixed with soya or other fillers.

Boerewors must contain a minimum of 90% meat and a maximum of 30% fat to legally use that name.

Braaiwors (or braai wors) needs only 40% meat content.

The name on the label matters more than you might think.
