#60inchcorn yield data collection begins today! This was a dryland variety trial that ran beside an identical 30 inch trial. As almost always with North Dakota weather, we had a few bumps in the road. More trails and demos left to harvest. Hope to finish next week.
Who's more frustrating to work with? Team ramrod that gets shit done but breaks everything...or the overly cautious that checks the oil in the firetruck when your house is on fire?
@agronomizeNDSU Yes, it will be interesting! Looks like you have the TR up and running? Our moisture at Oakes by hand shelling is mid 20s so won’t be long. Picture is of our CCSP grazing project 60s. After flooding and hail it still looks respectable.
#60inchcorn cover crop, pumpkins and squash. 60 inch strip till, Round Up, Laudis, atrazine sprayed 7 days ago. Removed 2-3 inches topsoil and replaced with untreated soil. Greenhouse transplants. Ok, gotta have a little fun here!
Our CCSP project at Oakes. We are 60 inch strip tilling grazed off rye. Not sprayed. Just pulled cattle off a day ago. Finished seeding last evening. We will be posting updates on our #60inchcorn experiments through out the year. Field days will be virtual this year.
Yet pulled every other row unit off the old CCSP strip till machine to make it simple. This is a demo of 30 inch and 60 inch strip till at the Oakes Irrigation Research Site. #60inchcorn.
30-60 trial. 2 passes, 1 to do the 30inch plots, 2nd to do the 60s. 3 row planter, rows can be lifted. Replicated. 5 passes per plot. Harvest middle rows. N-S, E-W, 5 populations. Twin rows and N-S cover crop demo if we don’t run out of time!
@aaronswanson20 @agronomizeNDSU Mike can sure add to this, but we talked about looking at differences in plant growth, ear size, leaf structure, etc at same plant spacing, but different row width. We may try soybean plates, but could lose accuracy. Our corn plates slots are cut differently.
@agronomizeNDSU we finally caught up with you! After a few fits and starts we got our planter and programming figured out. So, we are holding up our 1/2 of the wide row corn trial here at the Oakes Irrigation Research Site.
