When Jeff Richardson talks about his promotion to Deputy Chief, he doesn't talk about rank.
He talks about people.
After nearly three decades with Charlotte Fire, Richardson is stepping into a role that will impact every member of the department, overseeing Training, Recruitment, Health and Safety, and Human Resources.
His mission remains the same as it was when he joined Recruit Class 51 in 1997: support the people who make Charlotte Fire what it is.
"The people of an organization is its soul," Richardson said.
Read more about Richardson's career, the lessons he's learned, and why serving others remains at the heart of his leadership.

Nobody talks about this:
Median teacher salary → $67K
Median doctor salary → $239K
Per National Study of Millionaires:
Teachers: 5% of US millionaires.
Doctors: 3%.
Teachers: 401(k) from day one.
Doctors: 10 years late to investing. Then lifestyle gets in the way.
Do you still think it’s about salary?
When a working fire is dispatched, firefighters arrive to changing conditions, split-second decisions, and a mission that demands teamwork from the moment they step off the apparatus.
The radio traffic in this video captures just a small part of what it takes to manage a complex incident. Behind every transmission is a firefighter relying on training, preparation, and the people working beside them to get the job done.
Serving a growing city means being ready for whatever comes next, and that readiness is built long before the emergency begins.
If you're looking for a career that will challenge you, develop you, and give you the opportunity to serve your community, Charlotte Fire is accepting firefighter applications for one more week.

🚨🇺🇸🇮🇷 BREAKING: The deal between the U.S. and Iran is done, with only the signing left, according to Al Jazeera's bureau chief...
If it holds, this is the breakthrough after a brutal 24 hours.
A caveat earned by experience.
We have seen deal announcements get walked back before, with Washington declaring progress and Tehran describing something narrower hours later.
This remains a claim until Iran confirms and ink hits paper.
But if accurate, the war that started February 28 is at its finish line.

🚨🇮🇷🇷🇺 A plane carrying high ranking Iranian government officials is reportedly headed to Moscow...
It comes the same night U.S. forces struck inside Iran.
A senior delegation flying to Moscow right now fits several possibilities at once.
Russia has been hovering at the edge of this entire process.
Moscow offered to store Iran's enriched uranium, the same mechanism floated in the 2015 deal.
If Iran is leaning toward handing its stockpile to Russia rather than the United States, that conversation happens in Moscow.
It could also be coordination, reassurance, or leverage as Tehran weighs the U.S. framework against its other options.
Who is on board, and why, is the question.

This Memorial Day, Charlotte Fire honors the brave men and women of the United States military who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.
Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to protecting others will never be forgotten. As we gather with family and friends this weekend, we pause to remember those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy today.
Charlotte Fire also recognizes the many veterans within our ranks who continue their service to others here in the Queen City.
Today, we remember.
