Today, I inaugurate the National Libraries and Documentation Service (NLDS) Council, a body entrusted with the strategic responsibility of modernising Zimbabwe’s libraries and information services.
This Council has been tasked with driving digital transformation and technological innovation, ensuring that our national library system evolves into a modern hub of knowledge, research, and inclusive access. Its work is central to advancing Vision 2030, our national covenant to build a prosperous, upper-middle-income Zimbabwe.
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Agnes Chikonzo, University Librarian at the University of Zimbabwe, as the Chairperson of the NLDS Council. Her distinguished leadership in academic librarianship and digital information management will guide this transformation.
Together, the Council will strengthen professionalism, expand equitable access to information, and mobilise partnerships that position Zimbabwe’s libraries as engines of innovation, learning, and national productivity. I look forward to working closely with the Council to ensure that the light of knowledge reaches every classroom, every community, and every citizen of our motherland.

When Dr @jesswade@imperialcollege realised there was a dearth of Wikipedia entries for female scientists she didn't complain - she started writing. In the past few years she's penned 1700 entries for women in science - and she isn't done. "There is still a long way to go!"
