When I was a teenager I had broken into the top 5 in England for the sport I enjoyed.

This was the cut off to represent England in various competitions worldwide. I was naturally over the moon. I had spent the majority of my life training for this specifically.

However before the season began, a kid from Africa (who had just been at boarding school in England for 7 years but was admittedly way better than me) decided he wanted to play for England instead of the country he had previously represented.

He told me it was because of the funding he would receive from the England setup when he eventually turned professional was far greater than if he stayed representing his African home country.

This pushed me out of the top 5 and got me dropped from the England squad.

I complained to the England coaches because obviously this kid wasn’t English…how could he represent England?

I was then banned from competing entirely for 6 months.

This afternoon, while out canvassing for Pete Newman in Holborn and St Pancras, a message came through informing us a Restore canvasser had been hospitalised by fascist group Stand Up to Racism.

Ourselves in Reform have been carrying whistles and alarms, as well as ensuring female canvassers are always accompanied.

This level of violence and intimidation is utterly disgraceful, and must be called our across the board as the dangerous attack on democracy that it is.
