@LucyKwiatek haven't read anything else of hers but "sci-fi author who is also a professor of early modern european history" is like an impossibly well-targeted combo for me, but yeah there's been a lot of moments and themes in there that've raised my eyebrows
currently 50 pages into the last terra ignota book and getting increasingly concerned this has all just been a 1500-page-long apologia for benevolent dictatorship
i feel like a massive publicly traded corporation should care that one of its employees is making millions of dollars trading on what is presumably not his information to sell
sometimes i get confused about whether insider trading on prediction markets is good because it makes the markets more efficient or bad because why the hell would anyone without insider information ever trade on anything when your money is just going to be taken by insiders
@spitemeter@andimgladofit poor steph man even baseline competent roster management around him and draymond could've given them more than just the one deep playoff run since 2020
@spitemeter@andimgladofit the miami stint worked out unbelievably well for him but at the time he chose them over an absolutely stacked 76ers roster that took the kawhi raptors to 7 games + a miracle, while miami was still in the middle of their post big-3 malaise
@spitemeter@andimgladofit lol i first started seriously following the timberwolves right before jimmy got here so i have thoughts on him that only become fashionable every 3 or so years when he gets bored and blows up whatever team he forced his way onto
@spitemeter@andimgladofit never fully clear whether those are motivated by lifestyle or marketing opportunities, i'd guess more lifestyle for melo and butler vs marketing for lebron, but its probably a mix for all of them
@spitemeter@andimgladofit im pretty sure most of the time its just about hating losing(/being addicted to winning), but you do sometimes also see guys just force their way into a big market even when that team is worse - carmelo anthony to the knicks, lebron to the lakers, jimmy butler to the heat, etc
@spitemeter@andimgladofit covered it, the nba added the supermax to make leaving the team drafted you come w a financial hit but guys just take the extension and demand a trade. besides 2017 kd and ring chasing vets i cant think of anyone whos taken significantly less money to join a winner
