@NAguerriberry Good topic. Recently I witnessed a nurse who failed to prioritize critical vital signs on a patient versus finishing an admission check in of another patient. We have to always think in terms of priority and reassess who is stable versus unstable constantly.
@Darsey86546007 Unfortunately these supposed laws aren't enforced on the violent elderly population with dementia/sundowners. Nurse abuse continues from these folks and there's no real intervention or charge because they are in an altered status. Quite sad and too frequent.
@WinckelJessica Most mid-level providers at our hospital are pretty amazing. They bring the patient-centered connection nurses covet mixed with higher level knowledge and skill. Sometimes higher level docs miss the details honed in nursing.
It is said that every 3-4 seconds someone dies of sepsis (from @WorldSepsisDay). What?! How we maintain our population with this statistic has me confused. One thing I'm confident about is the high prevalence of septic patients in the ED. Here's how we'll treat it- #NR4031218

As brand new nurses we will surely feel the pressure and duty to administer medications based on orders we see. This article gives a quick reminder of effects and contraindications several common meds in one case study. It also shows us why critical thinking counts! #NR4031218
Very important idea in our field- courage and flexibility to adopt new or alternate care interventions. I found this especially relevant after reading journals that showed the use of NS to counter blood loss in trauma patients was not best practice, yet still standard. #NR4031218

@MaggieM28004653 Definitely an unforeseen statistic. A part of me still has trouble accepting that adults can allow a schoolyard concept to push them out of a job. Nurses should be bonding more than most coworkers across fields, knowing the career is high stress and teamwork invaluable #NR4031218
@WinckelJessica While I don't wholly support the idea of handing out Narcan to users as a "safety net", I do find it incredibly surprising that the SON does not teach Narcan administration. I would argue that its use is more common that the EpiPen- which we are trained to use.
