@M_Reader2@Justinredalen@DKThomp If the argument for cutting USAID was that there was a more efficient use of that money that would save even more lives, then I would be alright with that.
But no argument like that has been made, the money saved seems to have been funneled into tax cuts for Musk and Trump.
@M_Reader2@Justinredalen@DKThomp Immigrants are disproportionately less likely to commit crimes than native citizens.
And a large portion of our healthcare workers are immigrants.
Every murder committed by an immigrant is a tragedy, but on net migrants save far more lives than they take.
@shirtbruder@Justinredalen@DKThomp He was an orphan, his parents died. He was a helpless child. Elon Musk ordered his caretakers to cease providing lifesaving medical care.
@CounterSignalCO@PollTracker2024 Netanyahu has explicitly said that there will never be a two state solution.
You and Netenyahu are on the same side in your opposition to a peaceful two state solution.
@rtvrn2svbvrb@Justinredalen I do donate some of my salary to effective charities.
But almost no charitable giving is as effective, in a per dollar level, at saving lives as the programs that Musk destroyed.
This also hurts the US by making it more likely a pandemic develops unchecked.
@Noahpinion Lack of aid isn't murder, but cutting it in the haphazard way they did is.
Not being a surgeon isn't murder. But this is akin to a surgeon walking out of a surgery, without any replacement, in the middle of it because they think they aren't getting paid enough.
@Justinredalen@DKThomp If you watch that clip you will hear the interview with the mother. Predictably, almost none of these extremely poor people who need this aid speak english.
@Justinredalen@DKThomp You should challenge yourself to think about what evidence could possibly convince you.
Here is a first hand interview with a mother discussing her son dying because the US funded clinic that he had received care at was closed:

@Justinredalen@DKThomp Evan Anzoo was 5 years old and survived due to medicine that cost 12 cents a day.
Musk and Trump's cuts were so sudden and haphazard that no other group could possibly step up in time to save Evan's life.

@Justinredalen@DKThomp Peter Donde was a 10 year old orphan who was born with HIV.
Due to the halting of PEPFAR by Musk in 2025 he was unable to get his life saving medicine. He died as a direct result directly because of the actions of Musk and Trump.

@jaosinhiding@besttrousers@politicalmath You are clearly not a Christian because you see no value in human life.
But in purely selfish terms, we don't want diseases running rampant anywhere. That give them opportunities to mutate and become more infectious and affect us.
@Rho_die Read about the homeschooling battles in West Virginia for more info on that.
One of the leaders of reform Republican state Sen. Eric Tarr who homeschooled their kids, and didn't want to be associated with the abusers.

@Rho_die Based off of your tweets, you are anti-homeschooling by the standards of the homeschooler lobby! I'm quite liberal and I'd back your minimum standards for homeschooling.
My biggest concern is how homeschooling is used as an excuse to shield child abusers from scrutiny.
@Rho_die That is an extremely anti-homeschooling take, compared to the status quo.
CT did some very basic homeschool reform just to ensure kids weren't being taken out of school by parents with records of child abuse, and that recieved massive pushback from homeschoolers.
@mattyglesias Not much would change on the ground in the middle east, but at least the US would no longer be seen as responsible for their actions.
IDK if that is the left's goal, but it is a good outcome. And if Israel paid the full cost they might face fiscal pressure to moderate ambitions.
@ctelectionguide Where are you getting that information?
I believe that there is a Republican candidate in the 138th, Irving Fox: https://t.co/Tz8ceI2WT5
@DrWumbology@mattyglesias That news story honestly makes me much more sympathetic to the Mormons.
Good on them, fighting back against stupid zoning laws. It is idiotic for the town to deny their permit over the height of a steeple.
