Researchers at the Karolinska Institute put newborns face down on their mothers' bare stomachs after delivery and filmed what happened. Nobody helped. Within the hour, most of them had hauled themselves up the body, found the nipple, and started to feed.

The sequence turned out to be the same across every baby they watched, and it has since been documented in Sweden, Italy, Japan and the United States. Nine stages, always in the same order: a cry at birth, then stillness, waking, movement and a rest. Then crawling, using the legs to push against the mother's abdomen. Then mouthing and touching the breast, then feeding, then sleep.

The whole hour counts, resting stages included, which means a newborn who looks like he has given up is simply between steps and will start again.

None of this is learned. A baby in the womb has nothing to latch onto and no rehearsal. The equipment arrives assembled, which is ordinary in mammals and quietly astonishing in a species whose infants cannot hold up their own heads.

The finding changed delivery room practice, because hospitals had been taking babies away for weighing and cleaning during exactly that window. Later work found labour medication and separation both disrupt the sequence. Babies who miss it struggle more with feeding afterward.

An infant less than sixty minutes old, unable to see much beyond the length of an arm, knows where to go.

I second Mike Rowe’s recommendation that you watch this brief video. I am astonished by the number of professing Christians who are processing the shooting of Alex Pretti through a framework that’s simply disconnected from reality.

Law enforcement officers are not omniscient, and it’s irrational and cruel to expect that they can respond in an insanely chaotic situation as though they are. That’s why citizens should understand both their rights and responsibilities, so these tragic situations will be avoided.

Fernando Mendoza was a 2-star recruit from Miami.

He tried to walk on at his hometown school. They passed.
So did FIU.
So did FAU.
So did everyone else.

At 17, he was sitting in his bedroom, crying over a silent recruiting inbox—after driving to 18 camps with his dad and sending highlights to more than 100 programs.
Not one FBS offer.
His only option? Yale. No scholarship. No NFL path.

Everyone told him to be “realistic.”

The kid 134 schools rejected spun through defenders and dove into the end zone.

Game over.
Indiana—national champions.
The losingest program became the best team in America.
All because a 17-year-old refused to believe “no” was the end.

Rankings don’t decide your ceiling.
Gatekeepers don’t write your ending.
Being overlooked isn’t a verdict—it’s a starting point.

Sometimes all you need is one shot…
