#WeekendReview Case 7: ultrasound is 93-95% sensitive for the diagnosis of appendicitis. However, because the diagnosis is so common, false negatives occur. If there is continued clinical suspicion for appendicitis, CT or MRI should be performed.
@jamesgray0 Also, how do we address the subjective elements of pre-test probability? Assinging it is influenced by how good our illness scripts are (👉 https://t.co/A9UEeafTy5 ) and how reliable the patient is. Applying it is determined by how risk tolerant a physician/patient/system is.
Following our mental health heavy M&M discussions with @cincyPEMfellows yesterday this was sobering. Having @skyemwillen as a MH crusader & front-line MH provider means this a regular conversation in our house. Minorities, essential workers, caregivers w/ worse MH outcomes.
Most babies cry a bit.
Some babies barely cry at all.
Some babies do almost nothing except cry.
This can all be normal.

Oh hey look our paper. Couple takeaways from our small retrospective study:
1) children with autism commonly need sedation in the ED for a variety of reasons
2) they likely do NOT need different dosing from children without autism
(2 of my coauthors are now at @COpediatricEM!)
