I don’t really get labels like this, @campdenbri. An air fryer and an oven both cook by heating the outside of the item with hot air. If the air fryer heats the interior faster, it can only be by delivering more heat at the surface. So why not have a higher oven temperature?
@Fireblade577 It’s part of the accelerationist “philosophy” in Silicon Valley. It elevates smart robots in the future over humans in the here and now. You and I are just fuel to be burnt reaching the stars. There is no intrinsic human dignity or value.
Which is great for every oligarch.
@SlicedBread00 22000 trade in value last month 16,000 this month.. they told me they are dropping about 1K a week right now. looks like tesla is buying some back to spike the price.
Eric Shiraev, a political scientist from George Mason University, speaking to Radio Free Europe, sees scant progress in Trump’s efforts. “He aimed for a swift deal to tout success, but nothing’s advanced,” Shiraev explains. “His team, chosen for loyalty over critique, bends to his will. It’s unpredictable—tied to his mood. Peace feels illusory; the price might be Ukraine’s surrender, which is impractical.” Yuri Gorodnichenko, an economist from UC Berkeley, told Radio Free Europe that this conflict hinges on endurance, not just troop strength. “Economics now drive this war of attrition,” he says. “Ukraine holds on with allied backing; Russia relies on oil. Both strike at energy systems, yet Ukraine adapts—using decentralized power and drones built in basements. US military support is crucial, but allies like the EU could step up. Trump’s proposals, like tapping resources or managing nuclear plants, are far-fetched; he’s after a quick win, not lasting solutions.”
@hotelluxband Tabloid Newspaper stayed with me and stayed with me and stayed with me and in the end I wrote something that is sort of about it. https://t.co/qt5LyKyIPd
What does the government want from UKRI’s next boss?
@williamcb asks whether talk of economic growth signals change in the funder’s direction.

Today I argue that Trump”s approach to Europe and Ukraine can only be understood in the context of his quest to solidify his control over the United States, to make himself king.

Into the kill zone
Today I argue that Big Tech have been the big winners in the first months of Keir Starmer's government, and ask whether the UK still has the capacity to resist its demands

At the heart of Canadian national memory is the awareness that Canadians twice came to the UK's aid in world wars years before the Americans showed up.
It will not be forgotten if the Brits now hide in a corner and say nothing when Canada faces existential threats.
Today I describe the enduring influence of Margaret Thatcher on the UK's industrial strategy and argue that we need to change direction.
