@alyndanoel @fastbreconomics Totally. I think a big aspect of this is how political positions have increasingly become personal characteristics. For example, McCain seemed like a very nice man in his personal interactions, but his awful foreign policy views made me personally dislike him.

@fastbreconomics Not sure it's "partisanship" - I just think people, actually rightfully, are making decisions based less on personal characteristics of the politician vs. how politicians affect the world. I would have voted for Cal Cunningham in a heartbeat despite his affair.

@aleeinthedmv @fastbreconomics @ChilledOnTheRox There are a couple of lessons to take from Manchin, but in general Manchin has kept his senate seat by actively breaking from Democrats in order to be seen as a maverick. You quite obviously can't organize a party based around breaking from the party.

@aleeinthedmv @fastbreconomics @ChilledOnTheRox I think you misunderstand me here. Spanberger ran like 10/20 points behind Biden in red areas of her district. Neither leftists or centrists are doing what is necessary win rural voters. And until they figure that out both are fucked long term.
