Fakih's (@mohamadfakih8) point — and the concern many legal experts share — is that Toronto’s new bylaw shields political activities (like real estate sales tied to settlements) from protest simply because they occur at religious sites.
As Edward Keenan’s piece makes clear, this bylaw was passed despite legal advice warning it likely violates the Charter. It doesn't make people safer — it makes dissent harder.

If a synagogue is used to promote or fundraise for illegal settlements, just as a mosque or church could be used to promote political activity, then the political activity — not the faith — becomes the subject of protest. And protest, even when uncomfortable, is a democratic right.

This bylaw isn’t about protecting worship. It’s about weaponizing religion to insulate certain politics from public scrutiny. That’s what Fakih was calling out — and he’s right to do so.

Yves’ father here, providing an update about Yves who is currently detained at the Bordeaux jail until at least Monday.

Today the prosecutors refused to free him unless he would agree not to speak publicly about the case including naming directly or indirectly the influencer who filed the complaint against him.

Yves will have a bail hearing Monday 9am. He has called for supporters to attend.

The hearing will determine whether or not Yves will be freed pending trial and if he will be allowed to write in detail about what is happening to him including naming the complaint and the police officer who have accused him of harassment. He has no interest in naming the police officer but insists that he should be able to name the influencer who regularly publishes hateful anti Palestinian content online.

I’ve watched you from afar and never said anything for two main reasons. 1 being the respect I have for your brothers and parents & 2 I’ve always wanted to keep the in fighting between folks of color to a minimum.

This was something I couldn’t let go -

I’ve known you since I was ten years old and played with you so I’d say I know you better than most at a deeper level. You were a hell of a player and instead of using your platform you did everything in your power to gain acceptance and popularity, nothing with you has ever been genuine but transactional and usually for publicity reasons.

Even during this most sensitive time both politically and socially you take the side of the oppressor because that’s who you make your money from. I would of thought the “love” you have always claimed for your country, a country you represented at the highest levels would shine through to push back on rhetoric of annexation and humiliation of the very land you are born and raised in, but even that doesn’t get you to do the right morally.

This is the reason why every place you have played - no one liked you and players on the inside have always known who you really are - a sell out of the highest proportions. You are the perfect example of why people of color haven’t progressed at the highest levels of society. From one man to another, you’re a disgrace and history will judge you accordingly.

When Californians were given the choice to stop the constant soft on crime legislation they’ve painfully endured for many years - they overwhelmingly said YES!
I guarantee this result would play out the same way in Canada if we were given that choice. Our cities and citizens deserve way better than what’s been happening. Enough is enough.

I know the Guelph speed cameras are meant for public safety and such but can some from council @CamGuthrie; @carlyklassen; @CouncillorCaton please reason out why so little of the money goes to the city? Just seems to me we're funneling money from citizens to a private company?

I'll be honest, I've got got by one of them, and I'd be happier knowing 1) the money isn't just being funneled into a private company and 2) the metrics actually show long term reductions in incidents.
