An open letter to every competitive Pokémon TCG Pocket player.

At Pokémon EUIC in London, Chris Brown, Pokémon's Director of Global Esports & Events, was asked about the future of competitive TCG Pocket.

His answer:
"With Pocket, what feels great for us right now is the Side Events, a casual way for people to meet up. There are no plans for it to be a main title."

No competitive scene. No ranked system. No esports. Just "a casual way for people to meet up."

Let that sit for a moment.

This is a game with 150M+ downloads. $1.3B+ in revenue. 2 billion battles played. The most successful mobile TCG launch in history. And the official position is: keep it casual.

Meanwhile, last weekend, 1,172 players from 45+ countries competed in a PGL tournament for $1,500 in prizes. 3,338 matches played in 2 days.

Nobody asked permission. Nobody waited for an official circuit.

The players decided this game deserved a competitive scene. So they built one.

PGL has been running tournaments for over a year. Thousands of matches. A community of players who take this game seriously, because someone should.
