Curious immunologist; interested in ‘quirky’ cells and how to make the world smarter, healthier, and happier.

The lab is searching for PhD students interested in bioinformatics and/or immunology.

[Gerhard Wingender @WingenderG]

@WolkersMonika Too kind, I’m flattered.

We are able to expand the group!

The US is one of two OECD countries without universal health care. The costs are known, but here are the additional costs due to COVID19 just for 2020: 212.000 lives and over $105billion (https://t.co/BndiQBEGc0). I guess sacrifices need to be made to ward off 'socialism' ☹️.

The climate crisis reveals that our civilization has never really been organized around science, contrary to the usual Enlightenment narrative. It is organized around capital. Science is embraced when it serves the interests of capital, and is often ignored when it does not.

Please, please share this piece widely. It has the potential to reach deep into the mainstream and raise public urgency on climate breakdown. It is already "most shared" across the Guardian. Push this moment

‘If you need to be right, before you move, you will never win!’

Dr Michael Ryan @DrMikeRyan on the very clear lessons learned from #Ebola outbreaks.

Thing is; there are people who KNOW exactly how to deal with infectious disease outbreaks.

Let’s just listen to them! Please!

And we used almost 2/3 of it. I wonder what alphabet we will have to learn next.

[Gerhard Wingender @WingenderG]

I imagined learning the Greek alphabet differently :-(

If 10 electricians said my house was in danger of a fire, but a plumber disagreed, I’d fix the wiring.

If 50 liver specialists said my child needed a transplant, but a dentist disagreed, I’d get the transplant.

Learn to trust experts. They know more than you.

Climate deniers could be funny (if it wouldn’t be so damaging):
1-Denial: I am not the father of the baby, because there is no baby.
2-Shift the blame: Ok, there is a baby, but it is not man-made. Baby’s came before, it’s an immaculate conception!

The key to a better life is better thinking.

Great song and artist, BTW.

"And if I liked rejection I'd audition" ('Just Hold Me' by Maria Mena). It feels like every manuscript submission is an audition, just with less stage fright.

Care less about whether you’re right and be more curious about what’s true.

"How can I be remembered?" he said.

"Be difficult to forget," the Oracle said.

"How? Do I create art? Be famous? Be powerful?"

"Be kind."

What does not kill you, mutates and tries again! You’re vaccinated? Great, now encourage others. The fewer host, the fewer mutations.

COVID19 became a disease of the unvaccinated. 97-98% of hospitalized patients are unvaccinated!
