It’s more important than ever for users to understand the importance of using bridges that are underpinned by decentralized cross-chain infrastructure that provides level-5 security.

Bridges with weak cross-chain security give a bridge provider the unilateral authority to halt transactions, maliciously withdraw funds, or shut down the network—a key example of centralization risk. This centralization risk also means the bridge is highly vulnerable to a potential hack or exploit because the centralized entity represents a single point of failure.

Ultimately, it’s up to users in today’s multi-chain landscape to understand the security assumptions of any bridging solution that they use—especially because bridge hacks represent more than $2.8B in total hacked value across the industry.

This doesn’t mean that all users have to learn how to read smart contracts. It simply means users should have a baseline understanding of how to gauge the security of the bridging solutions they use.
