Meet the @APHRC 2026 Cohort of Interns, a group full of curiosity, energy and big questions about how research can change lives across Africa.
Our conversation reminded me why investing in the next generation of African researchers and leaders is at the heart of what we do.
At #CPHIA2026, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi (@CHRISBARYOMUNS1), Minister of Health of the Republic of Uganda, will join African leaders and experts to discuss stronger health security, regional cooperation and how countries can better prepare for public health emergencies.
Uganda’s experience during Ebola Outbreak offers important lessons on working across borders, strengthening preparedness and building systems that can respond when health threats emerge.
Be part of the conversation in Addis Ababa, 23–27 November 2026.

PUBLISHED! Of all the papers I’ve authoredeven in high end journals; this one is my absolute favorite. Here, we share how a clinical #trial was launched in record time during Uganda's Sudan #Ebola outbreak.
In a region heavily experiencing frequent epidemics, rapid trial activation to provide evidence needed to support deployment of medical countermeasures is a non-negotiable.
Here we offer an active blueprint to help teams deploy rapid, compliant clinical trials during disease #outbreaks.
Huge thanks to the co-authors & the resilient teams on the ground! @brucekirenga @IAVI @SabiitiwWilber @MWayengera @Hskyobe @MinofHealthUG @Lung_Institute @ICER_Global @WHO @AfricaCDC @EDCTP @StAndMedicine @ByakikaPauline

6th Kidney Transplant Camp | Closing
@MulagoReferral concludes its 6th Kidney Transplant Camp with 19 successful kidney transplants performed since the programme began in 2023.
A key milestone was the final transplant of the camp, successfully performed independently by the @MulagoReferral team—a significant step in building local capacity.
We thank Yashoda & Kidney Care For All teams for their continued technical guidance and support.
The Executive Director, Dr Rosemary Byanyima, called for strengthened Government support in human resource capacity, a dedicated transplant ICU &laboratory immunology services to enable more independent transplants and faster care.
The next camp is scheduled for November, as Mulago works towards making kidney transplantation a regular, independently delivered service.

19 Ugandans have received kidneys from their relatives since 2023, and in under 20 attempts, we have crossed the Jordan; we can confidently say that, 'Ugandans are having transplant surgery, In Uganda, by Ugandan.'
You can take this statement to the bank and cash it.
Congratulations to The Ugandan team, Mulago @MulagoReferral Management, @MinofHealthUG Leadership, and the combined leadership of @mkainerugaba and @KagutaMuseveni .

Following the successful signing of the Strategic Objective Agreement (SOAG) on the health co-financing arrangement between Uganda and the United States of America, I am pleased to represent Uganda at the Finance Ministers' Dialogue on Health Co-Investment in Nairobi.
This recently signed agreement operationalizes the MoU signed by both countries on 10 December 2025, where the US committed to provide health sector support of $1.7 billion, complementing Uganda's contribution of over $500 million over the next five years.
I look forward to productive discussions with the @USTreasury International Affairs team and other stakeholders. @henrymusasizi1@mofpedU
This is the leadership we have been waiting for in PLU. A strong and powerful speech from our General Secretary Hon. Twalla Fadil.I want to appreciate Hon. @HonTwallafadil for his deep wisdom and his true patriotism shown while addressing the MUK PLU Staff Charter. He has spoken like a real statesman who loves Uganda.
He said it clearly, for the betterment of our country we need collective efforts, it should not be one person. He thanked all people who come with ideas, research and knowledge to build PLU @Plumedia1 and he promised to work so closely with them to drive this organization far. This is humility, this is inclusiveness, this is leadership.
Hon. Fadil reminded us that PLU is going to be a bridge between the government and the population. That is the real mission. He defended government programs like myoga, PDM, etc for the youth and programs for women. He asked a very important question, is one million shillings bad to be given to a Ugandan? He said our mothers in Owino market and Nakasero survive with even 200,000 shillings capital, they pay rent, they stay in Kampala, they educate their children. He said people from Sebei who deal in Matooke know that with 25,000 you can buy 50 pieces of makooke and come to Kampala and make money. So why should people go on radios and TVs to decampaign such important programs that can transform lives. Do you love your people if you decampaign what helps them?
And he was very clear on corruption. He said the only state we have now is corruption and PLU under his leadership will raise the loudest voice in this country against corruption. He told Ugandans and everywhere, when you see something wrong, please report, don't fear them. He gave an example of our brother Hon. @BalaamBarugahar who said we should not touch corruption with gloves, we should touch it directly. And we have seen what is happening. People want to scare him but PLU is telling him don't be scared.
He also said he moved with Balaam in many areas, and he saw everywhere in country they were grading roads, they are putting maram. So you sit and ask yourself where was this money before? This is what happens when you have patriotic leaders who supervise government money.
He also reminded us how President @KagutaMuseveni introduced privatization and everybody abused him, said he wants to steal properties, yet today privatization is what has built our country and grown our economy. When government returned properties of Indians, it attracted very many investors because they knew Uganda is safe, and that is why we can now proudly speak about growing our economy to 500 billion dollars.
This is a General Secretary PLU who understands economics, who understands patriotism, who understands the common person.
We want to sincerely thank our Chairman General @mkainerugaba for appointing such a great, wise and grounded leader as Secretary General of PLU. General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has eyes for talent. He has given us a leader who is down to earth, who listens, who respects ideas, who loves Uganda and who is ready to fight corruption without fear.
Hon. Twalla Fadil is truly the right man for this job. He will strengthen PLU from village to national level, he will mobilize the youth, he will be the bridge between government and the people.
