Atatürk and Lee Kuan Yew are small men of history; men who have seized a uniquely revolutionary moment and, instead of wielding the course of history, decided to go with "uhh have a good government"
And THEN the lord describes the vanity, the jewelry. The extent of description here mimicking the extent of care spent on vanities while the farms waste away.
The symbols of wealth outlast the health of society, and are still clung to long after it has been hollowed out.
I need to change topics.
Isaiah 3, never see this one fully doscussed. The Lord tells Israel that in punishment he will take from them every capable ruler, all sources of strength, skill, and wisdom, and leave them to be ruled by children -
"Eaten up the vineyard" sounds like eating the seed corn. The source of the poor's oppression is the lack of good rulership - they've destroyed their inheritance which would have fed the nation.
@bumbadum14 When the dispatcher says experiencing another culture, he is calling these little girls whores for being raped and saying they deserve to be made victims now.
@bumbadum14 Worth remembering that for all we dislike accepting feminist framing on issues, this is the actual "rape culture." When you ask these men how they could do such terrible things they explain that western girls deserve it for dressing in an English way, for having visible hair.
Fascinating report. Among other things:
Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer let off 13,000 gang rapists and pedophiles.
Mayor of London @MayorofLondon denied the existence of rape gangs he was personally aware of.
@po_po__2 Seven Eleven in the United States is not like Seven-Eleven in Asia. It's not a good hang-out spot and is frequently an undesirable place to be.
Very sorry for the confusion.
@eigenrobot Our politics seems to increasingly consist of this kind of conflict - I might call it an "efficient" political dispute - where everyone agrees on what's happening and its intended effect, on all the essential facts of the matter. It's just a dispute of power.
@eigenrobot It seems as though both homeschoolers and homeschooling haters agree that the purpose of public education is to inculcate certain values into children, and so the war is simply whether that/those values are good.
