Watching some discussions about China on X feels like watching the conjunction fallacy in real time.

Psychology has a name for it. The conjunction fallacy.
It is the tendency to believe a long, dramatic story is more likely than a simple explanation.

China launches a world-class AI model.

Normal explanation:
“They built a very capable AI model”.

Conjunction-fallacy explanation:
“They couldn’t possibly have built it themselves. They must have copied it, hidden something, manipulated the benchmarks, received infinite state support, fooled the researchers, and somehow every independent engineer missed it”.

This just makes the story less probable with every extra assumption you piled on.

Psychologists and behavioral economists have studied this for decades. Many people mistake a story with more details for a story with a higher probability. It feels richer, so it feels truer.

The same people who say “follow the science” abandon probability the moment China succeeds.

When a Western company ships a breakthrough, it’s called innovation.

When Japan does it, they praise Japanese precision.

When China does it, a dozen extra assumptions appear.

China builds EVs.
“Yes, but at what cost…”

China leads in industrial robots.
“Yes, but at what cost…”

China releases the best AI model.
“Yes, but at what cost…”

China files thousands of patents.
“Yes, but at what cost…”

This pattern has become extremely predictable and boring, really.

For many people, China isn’t allowed to succeed. Every achievement must come with an elaborate conspiracy package before they’re emotionally comfortable accepting reality.

It’s your ideology colliding with the conjunction fallacy, and that doesn’t make your argument intelligent at all.

China is already leading in many areas of advanced manufacturing, EVs, robotics, and AI capabilities. The conjunction fallacy won’t slow scientific progress. It won’t stop engineers from building, researchers from publishing, or companies from innovating.

The only person it holds back is the one trapped inside it. It’s you. Recognize your own confirmation bias before it sends you further down the rabbit hole.

India keeps selling itself as the next China.

But China built an industrial ecosystem.

India built a screwdriver economy surrounded by legal traps, infrastructure failures, political extortion, and operational chaos.

“Investment graveyard” was never an insult.

It was a warning label.

Corrupt leaders are incapable of emotional intelligence, for it requires recognising yourself in another person. And you cannot steal the money meant to provide clean water to all because you so desperately want to be the only one drinking champagne if you still see yourself in the thirsty child.

But it goes beyond lack of emotional intelligence. What we are dealing with is feudalism. They deeply believe in the natural superiority of their lineage over the common citizen. It is genuinely demeaning for them to use the same schools, the same hospitals, the same facilities as the people they govern. Sharing a service with the governed would collapse the hierarchical distance on which their entire sense of self depends.

And the flaunting of stolen wealth is never accidental. It is very intentional. It is how they remind the people of their superiority. The convoys, the mansions, the ostentatious celebrations and lifestyle paid for with public funds is a message to the people: “I took this from you, you watched me take it, and there is nothing you can do about it.”

Gone are the days I used to ask myself how do they sleep at night. They sleep very well and even snore. They have successfully muted whatever conscience they may once have possessed and convinced themselves that they deserve that life and that the people deserve the suffering. There is no internal contradiction to keep them awake.

And Oh, there is one facility they do not mind sharing with the people: the church or the mosque. They need to sit among you in the house of God, draped in stolen wealth, surrounded by their convoy and their bodyguards, so that you may witness with your own eyes that even the divine has chosen them over you. The sermon that preaches humility is delivered to you. The blessing lands on them.

And they leave before you, through a separate exit, back into a world you are not meant to follow them into.

German battery maker Varta, one of the country's oldest and most iconic companies, is going bankrupt 139 years after it was founded.

This comes after 196,100 companies shut down across Germany last year - the highest number in 14 years.
