Breaking: Joseph Sanberg, co-founder of green-banking company Aspiration and charged with defrauding investors out of $248M, was just sentenced to 14 years in prison. Aspiration is at the center of an NBA investigation into the Clippers for salary cap circumvention. Story coming.
The membership of the National Basketball Coaches Association joins the NBA family in mourning the passing of legendary Head Coach and Hall of Famer, Rick Adelman.
Rick Adelman coached in the NBA for 29 years, serving as a Head Coach for 23 seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers, Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves. Over his coaching career, Rick won 1,042 games (10th all-time), was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021 and received the NBCA Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023. Coach Adelman also enjoyed an eight-year NBA playing career with the San Diego Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Jazz, and Kansas City-Omaha Kings.
Adelman will be remembered not only as a coach and a player, but also as a mentor to so many in the basketball community. Rick was a husband to Mary Kay for 56 years; father to Kathy, RJ, Laura, David, Caitlin, and Patrick; and a grandfather of twelve. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Adelman family during this difficult time.

I do wonder in a hypothetical world where they have a stud big man who is reluctant to commit would they still stick with 3-year rule given needs up front? We'll never know.
FWIW, I think Canada Basketball is doing the right thing with needing 3-year commitment. Can't start over every year or have fighting about roles. Murray/Wiggins/Sharpe all big-time talents, but they are stacked at G and wing.
Canada went 1-for-2 with this plan. Had Leonard Miller watching last summer and Miller took off down stretch for woeful Bulls and remains a unique talent.
Shaedon Sharpe is the other notable name missing from Canada’s player pool for this Olympic cycle. Also wouldn’t/couldn’t commit. Surprised by this one. He was around the program/in camp as an observer last cycle, plan was to groom him for this one.
German captain Dennis Schroder (who had epic tournaments for them) didn't want Isaiah Hartenstein or Maxi Kleber jumping aboard after skipping earlier summers. The players led that for Germany after Herbert had initially put the rules in place, telling him to stick with it.
Herbert says if Canadian players don’t commit this summer they are “out” for next three years. Points to Germany where some NBA guys declined first year and weren’t invited going forward. “The national team isn’t for everyone, and that’s OK.”
Craziest part of Canada Basketball roster to me is that Khem Birch and Kyle Wiltjer are still in the mix. I covered them as a young pup (still had hair) at McDonald's All-American Game (along with Myck Kabongo) way back in 2011!

Here is the official 23-man Canada Basketball pool for the summer. There are over 50 players committed including Zach Edey, but these are the players up for selection in the upcoming window.
Jamal Murray too. My bad. Was a lot of names thrown out quickly. Rowan Barrett did say the program has the right to call in players though so there might be more leeway. We’ll clarify.
