Movement to #AbolishTheRegistry. Directly-impacted led nonprofit. Empowering the most marginalized people and families — with education, advocacy, & community
ICYMI: our new president @meaghan_ybos — an outspoken survivor of rape — explains why she is working to ABOLISH the registry without incrementalism. No one is free until everyone is free. Please join WAR today! https://t.co/ljRqOda9ex
@JonnyFX1 Additionally, attraction to sexually mature teenagers ≠ "pedophilia." Pedophilic disorder requires sexual attraction to a prepubescent person—the avg. age of the onset of puberty has been on the decline for years (a concerning trend), but the ♀ avg. age was 11 two decades ago.
This is a heart breaking message.
But please don't call people "sex offenders." Someone might have committed an offense in the past. It doesn't define them today.
Statistics show that people living on the registry are highly unlikely to commit a new crime. Most offenses against children are committed by a family member or close friend… not someone on any list.
@MeghanWalsh_@john_walsh@WomenAgainstReg I worry more the ppl in authority not the Registered citizen a few blocks away, its time citizens look at records b4 passing judgement on the reg citizen who took a wiz in on a tree or @john_walsh underage dating who never paid for his crime while others do @WomenAgainstReg
Today's the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)
The 1st time the international community agreed on a set of common values
Rights are inherent to every single human being *without* exception
The registry + #shadowprisons are #humanrights abuses
Billy, who is on the registry, thought he was home, but it was within a 1,000 ft of an unused park's property line. Literally 15 ft into the yard. Good credit, money and an owner willing to rent, but it was in an exclusive zone, so it wasn’t possible. The registry must change.
“Every single infraction—jaywalking, vandalism, having a beer on your stoop—things that presumably go unenforced all the time suddenly become quite enforceable” if police can access thousands of neighborhood cameras, EFF’s @MGuariglia told @abc13houston. https://t.co/nNVXt0Glqe

Our past mistakes should not define our future.
Second chances aren't just about being compassionate; they make practical sense. When we help individuals reintegrate into society after serving their sentences, we're investing in safer communities and reducing risk.
This #GivingTuesday, we encourage you to give to local orgs providing access to education, job training, mental health support, and other essential services, that empower individuals to rebuild their lives and become productive members of society.
Add orgs you're supporting in the comments.
5 hours left until showtime with @MeghanWalsh_

It's not too late to grab your ticket for this special #GivingTuesday2023 fundraiser event.
"When we prepare people to reenter society, we need to think about each person as a human being, not only as a number. People need supportive housing. They need connections to jobs." @SerenaLiguori4 @NewHourNY@CUJusticeLab@timesunion https://t.co/i4PvpAlLj5
…and young people in general
…and any sexual nonconformists
…and anyone they want to smear as a nonconformist
It's definitely not *just* people engaged in sex work.
Another reminder that the antis continued campaign against sex and sex work — painting all sex work as trafficking and abuse in conversations with @instagram@reddit@twitter — is devastating the health and safety of actual sex workers.

@ThoughtasWeak@Wikipedia@MeghanWalsh_ At WAR we believe it's groundbreaking & exciting that the sister of the namesake for the registry doesn't believe there should be a registry and thinks it doesn't protect anyone.
We need as many people under our tent as possible if we hope to end these dehumanizing systems.
John Walsh is cited by @Wikipedia as one of the creators of the modern registry.
Join us on #GivingTuesday2023 for an exclusive event where his daughter will come out in favor of #AbolishTheRegistry.
Be inspired by @MeghanWalsh_'s journey of discovery!

@FreeWorldRemedy This is a common misconception: The SCOTUS ruling in Packingham only applied to government conduct, which is governed by the First Amendment. The First Amendment does not apply to corporations (like Meta) restricting who can use their platforms, because Meta is not a state actor
@mikewolfpack100@MeghanWalsh_@shadygrooove@intheMatrixxx Facebook bans registered sex offenders from the platform which I think is rediculous and should be illegal/unconstitutional. The pedophiles are not those registered, but others who lurk I suppose. Among school teachers, daycare, church, and CPS workers. What are your thoughts?
