I worked in the STD/HIV epidemic. I was far more afraid of catching Hep B than I was of HIV.

Adults can have Hep B and not know it. The virus lives outside the human body for up to seven days. That’s a risk a babies shouldn’t be exposed to.

The virus can live on surfaces for seven days and is found in trace amounts of blood- drinking from a cup, toothbrushes, etc. casual transmission is much higher in this disease. If an adult in the home is infected, then the baby is at higher risk.

So an adult has bleeding gums and drinks from a cup that the baby then picks up and drinks from and contracts Hep B
