@nicki21n 11:25pm.... called it. Time for mom to sleep. Snuck into the dark room, and checked her BG...245. Bolused a corrected and hope to wake up to about 100 at 6:30. Night night all.
@nicki21n I usually check her BG before I go to bed anyway, but I have to make sure to check after a pump change because if it malfunctioned, the lack of insulin, even just overnight, can be very dangerous. #DayInTheLife#T1diabetes
@nicki21n Oops! We forgot it was time to change her pump. This means ripping off the old one (she hates this part, it's like a giant band aid) and filling a new one with insulin. 120units (scary when you think about it!) Then we stick it on and it self injects the cannula into her arm.
@nicki21n Bedtime! Checking BG again, 116, and a small snack (with insulin) since we had such an early dinner. Headed to bed with 1.6u of insulin in her system, but I know the kid. I'm betting she's 200+ when I check her before I go to sleep.
@WorldTestStrips Diabetes played nice for pictures. Checking for a quick dinner out, then it's home to get ready for school tomorrow.
BG was 140, Mom was in charge of bolusing for dinner (sliders & fries).
Leaving for family pics....in a park.... grab my purse, my phone, "Where's your PDM?...Go get it!" Grab a few airheads, just in case someone has a low (we have 2 PWDs). Oh! Epi pens! Any thing else? "Got your PDM?"
We all ate and bc I have a raging case of ADHD, I'm just updating and yelling across the house... " hey! DID YOU BOLUS?!?!"
"YES!!!!" ๐ซ๐

1pm LUNCH before the mad dash to get ready for family pics.
I'm working on sandwiches, "B check your sugar!" I hear the clicking and beeping but she doesn't tell me a number. "What is it?"
"182! (Exasperated sigh) ๐๐๐" how many carbs?"
Mental math..."Do 55"
Beep, beep
@BasshamKeith We are old pros at Dexcom.... we just (grumpily) respect her desires NOT to wear the Dex. She usually wakes if low, and we have finally managed to fine tun ever overnight basal rates and corrections. That only took about 4 years to figure out! ๐
BG 116, that's good for morning
"30carbs, mom?"
Yep.
She boluses 1.30 units of insulin in her pump. This allows her body to break down the sugar/carbs in the food and use them for energy. Without the insulin, her blood sugar would skyrocket to 400+
#DayInTheLife#T1Diabetes
"momma, can you make me some breakfast.... like a grilled ham and cheese English muffin?"
Halfway thru making her breakfast..." B go check your blood sugar!"
Ok, she's up! Prob not dangerously low... soon she's going to start asking for food. I'll have her check BG (blood glucose) before she eats. Checking as soon as she wakes up always makes her grumpy. BTW has anyone ever realized an Omnipod insulin pump ticks every few minutes?
It's 8:37am. My child is still asleep. Is her blood sugar low? high? Do I wake her? I really want to let her sleep... welcome to life w/ #diabetes. Where you constantly question the inner workings of another persons body &guesstimate what it needs to stay alive. #DayInTheLife
