A rare illumination in the Greek manuscript (Mutinensis Graecus 144) from the early 1450's in Mystras, Moreas.

Commissioned by Demetrios Rhallis Kavakis, from the cycle of Georgios Gemistos Plethon, with Nikolaos Lemenitis the notary of Lakedaimon (Νικόλαος Λεμενίτης νοτάριος Λακεδαιμονίας) to be noted as co-scribe in certain parts.

The manuscript, which was worked as a "hausbuch" (a book tailored to the needs and interest of a specific owner, in this case Kabakis) includes texts by Harrmenopoulos, Ammonios, Pletho, Aristotle, Isokrates, Gregoras, Metochites, Loukianos etc. In a folio, the owner Kavakis, seems to has asked the Italian philhellene Cyriaco D'Ancona to draw for some reason an elephant and sign it in Greek as well.

Ukraine is an extreme case of this in more recent times, Kyiv had 30k/273k births in Ukraine in 2021, this year it's on track for 31k/146k. Births in Ukraine have almost halved but have risen in Kyiv, suggesting pop growth, if you visit Kyiv, it seems like everything is fine.
