Too often, UN peacekeepers work in conflict zones without enough weapons, resources, and protection. Nonetheless, they remain committed to confronting violence and upholding the promise of peace.

But do we think enough about the well-being and safety of our peacekeepers?

The recent flash floods in Nepal have caused a devastating humanitarian crisis. According to BBC News, the death toll has risen to 579 and nearly 2,000 people are still missing.

My prayers are with the victims and their families.

As a human rights defender, I firmly believe that we all have a moral responsibility to uphold human rights, peace, justice, and equality around the world.

We all have significant roles to play in carrying forward the vision of the great Nelson Mandela. We must prevent apartheid, genocide, repression, injustice, and coercion from taking root anywhere in the world. We must strive to build a world where humanity prevails.
